The first Fortnite World Cup has completed... some new millionaires has been made... https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-07-29/teen-wins-fortnite-world-cup-takes-home-4.3-million/11355480
A news bit on ABC. A British teen quit school and his mum home school'd him, so he could get in +12hrs of fortnight a day, which his mum agree'd with completely and backed his wishes. He made top 40 (or whatever) and earned 100k minimum for qualifiying. So instead of a trade, playing "games" is seen as a career. The brainwashing is real.
I see it no different to professional athletes, gotta keep up with the times. His mum only started supporting him after he won a sneaky 10k in an online tournament and it was like "oh hes actually good at this".
How is what he does worth any less than a person doing a trade? They're both only in it for the money. Not the benefit of society etc. Don't act like earning a trade is some sort of noble profession.
No different to many other esport titles, overwatch, CS GO, DOTA etc, combined with streaming services like twitch means its a viable career for some.
Playing games requires and develops, and not limited to: - Quick thinking. - Decision making. - Reflexes (physical and mental). - Ability to focus. - Team work (where team games are involved). - Sportsmanship. Seems about the same as professional athlete.
What was the last thing you won $100K for doing well? What did you get paid for a whole year's work last year?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hikikomori Who will build your home, who will grow your food, not a kid strapped to a monitor for 14hrs a day eating noodles and red bull. We had DOTA, then WOW, then CS, now this. So what about the other 39.996mil ppl who failed. Find those top 40 players on Twitch and donate if you need to validate you're opinion. We can do better ppl. Actually if you think of it as a "child film star", it makes a bit more sense, short term gains.
There are only so many trade positions available. There are only so many jobs available. If you have an issue with these guys do you have an issue with professional athletes? That is what these people are, e-sports athletes, and their career life time is similar, once they get a bit older they do not have the reactions and reflexes to compete with the young guns. You mention DOTA.....you know the international is at 30 million in the prize pool this year right? How many years you gunna build houses for people to make that kind of cash my man? Jealousy is ugly. EDIT: And before you jump to conclusions, I have an honours degree and work a full time job, I'm just not so narrow minded.
Well... yes... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Chess_Championship_2020 That's actually been a thing for quite a while...
Not sure what you want to classify people that participate in e-sports, even some Football clubs around the world are branching out and establishing esports sections. It is a thing whether we like it or not. Example: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PSG_Esports
Yeah, you're right. Everyone who's not a farmer or a builder needs to stop what they're doing right now and get a real job. All those actors, artists, game developers, professional athletes, musicians, models, motivational speakers - really about 80% of the planet - they all need a reality check, and should get back to growin' and buildin'. Everything else is just frivolous and stupid, for we are soulless worker ants, and nothing more.
I enjoyed watching the last 10 minutes of each round. There is still much to improve around how the play is presented in these tourneys but it is enjoyable. They are all friggin amazing.
