Because they know most of their base is just after sport. This way they give you a take it or leave it with other packages ;)

i started using the "free" Presto subscription over the weekend

it's not bad, but is pretty much all the same content as Foxtel (surprise surprise)

should be able to binge watch a few series that i haven't seen before though :)

quality is really good on the HD setting (3gb/hour) but my kids are mostly watching it so i leave it on low quality to save bandwidth (0.5gb/hour)

I think Foxtel is on the way out. They are offering redundancies at their offices on the Gold Coast according to my facebook feed.

Streaming services are starting to have an impact

After more than a decade I decided that paying extra to have "HD" just to watch sport wasn't cutting it. The deals they offered as I made it clear I was leaving could have kept me ~12 months ago.

I'm enjoying Netflix at the moment and will just have to attend more sporting fixtures instead.

I don't have Netflix but I pay for the Cricket Australia pass, I'd pay for AFL, and the holy grail for me would be F1.

I think it's the way forward. I think the license fees are what hold back live streaming at the moment but someone will offer it soon enough.

I only have Foxtel for F1.. but if pre-season testing results are no good I'll be getting rid of it this year. I'd happily pay $200/year for a reliable F1 stream with all of it covered but I can't see it coming.

Bernie using his old mindset will only hinder F1.

Protip, Presto isnt HD, and to call 576p 'quality' is hilarious.

Especially since with the current offer of no contract/upfronts and 3 months of platnium HD for free.

The biggest problem with this is broadcasting rights, $$$$ ultimately talks.

Well I finally got there...well sort of. Signed up last night for the Foxtel through Telstra first three months Platinum HD free trial plan.

I'll try that and see what price I can negotiate (ent + sports) after the three months is up.

Just rang up to 'disconnect' then, was paying $127 p/m for sports, HD, and everything except for 1 of the movie packs.

Didn't have to push too hard or ask/mention any specific pricing or packages that I wanted, just that it was too expensive and we were not getting the value out of it as were using a lot of Netflix and other streaming services and they offered upgrade to Platinum HD + Presto for $99 p/m with no lock in contract for 12 months.

Took the deal and am pretty happy with the result!

and yet you use that time to type pointless replies to a forum topic you clearly have no interest in.

    that motorbike must be lonely..

most people (including me) are getting the above for $89/month :p

there are probly a few getting even better deals, but in any case it sure beats $127/month!

Wait you're getting Platnium HD + Presto for $89 a month? That's only an extra $19 a month than what I currently pay, and I only have Entertainment, Entertainment Plus and Sports + HD... Should give Foxtel a call haha

Yeah I know, was tracking the bargaining thread on WP and saw quite a few people got it for $89 but couldn't be bothered trying to negotiate further down from $99 p/M.
