What are you using these streams for?

• Advertising monitoring?
• Rebroadcasting on a digital app/service?
• International / offshore services / monitoring?
• Something else?

If people are going to host some hardware in their house for a third party service, would be interesting to understand what it's being used for?

Also, if there's any legal issues with rebroadcasting or reuse of public television signals, who's liable in this case?

We are a media monitoring firm, so clients who receive news coverage either frequently or sporadically use our services to track where and when they are mentioned.

We have provided services of this type for print and online content for some time now, and are in the process of expanding our broadcast monitoring services.

As we are primarily an Australian firm the majority of our focus is on the Australian market, and we mostly provide our services to Australian companies of all sizes ranging from small businesses to large corporates, as well as working on technical products which we offer to other companies in our industry.

We have been in the media monitoring industry for 25 years working with online, print and broadcast content, while there are other companies in this space in Australia as well such as iSentia. It is perfectly legal to record and utilise broadcast content, as long as it is done pursuant to the relevant copyright regulations and licencing standards.

Just to clarify, are you only monitoring the FTA channels or are you backers wanting streaming services for this particular project. I'd hate for volunteers to be going to court for providing FTA broadcasts for a company to sell the broadcasts.

 

Distributing or using recorded content for commercial purposes (like selling copies, public performances, etc.) is illegal... but this company is not doing anything like that.

Just to confirm we are not doing anything illegal, we are complying with the current legislation and licencing agreements. We wouldn't want our amazing hosts or our company to be in any trouble, we have taken all the necessary steps to ensure correct processes are followed.

For anyone considering signing up, my service is now live.

Aimee and team have been great to deal with, they provisioned the 2x services, had the equipment sent out quickly, and are very quick to respond with any questions.

I don't use terrestrial TV, but installed a new antenna and mast amplifier directly for their equipment so they'd have the best possible signal.

So-far, it's all happy days.

It's quite a clean solution to use the second port of a FTTP and I would imagine (hope) the second service would be in their name.

Correct, both services are in our name however we do add the host as an authorised contact so they are able to contact the ISP with queries.

Another "node" running here with seamless setup and continuity of my previous ABB service.
Cancelling my "old" ABB account caused much hilarity on the other end.
I don't need any 4G capability as is supplied with the new router, so just swapped my existing one to UNI-D 2.

Would do again.
