FX 9590 or Ryzen?

    Hi not sure where to post this.

    Is it worth changing from the system in my sig to an AM4 system as I don't want it to be way slower than the 9590fx?

    I use it all the time for Photoshop and website stuff, surfing the Internet and playing CS:GO sometimes.

    If I change to a Ryzen was looking at just a Ryzen 3 or Ryzen 5 because of budget.
    Still will be using the same gtx 1060 6gb

    Ryzen 5 1400 is min as fast, but often faster than your 9590, in everything, particularly gaming or lightly threaded stuff. that might be a good point of reference / starting point

    Thanks I will upgrade then. Did notice the TDP is way less on the new CPU's

    Yeah 100% worth the upgrade for a multitude of reasons.
    As an all-rounder platform AM4 is sensation and also fairly future proof with support for future AM4 socket processors as well as several other benefits.

    Yeah the 9590 has been good but had it for a few years now so I will upgrade to AM4 and the watercooling. Thanks

    Just curious which CPU you are looking at?

    I assumed the R5 1400 but there aren't any retailers with stock unless you're going used.

    I went from 8350@4.5g, to a 1700 I have noticed my video editing is faster my games are much smoother no massive frame drops,I think you should upgrade..

    AEKaBeer Not sure just whatever I can afford after Christmas will have more o spend then.

    I'll upgrade the 9590 is a pretty old CPU now.

    Perhaps hold off till the Ryzen 2. Not that far away.

    To be clear Zen 2 architecture on Ryzen 3 series will be out around March, Ryzen 2 is already out now.
    It might be worth the wait as it's expected to have both a faster clock speeds and IPC improvements (at least a 15% overall improvement has been suggested), it should also give you a few more months to save up.

    Ryzen 3 series didn't know about that. Yeah I might wait till March.

    Couldn't wait as my motherboard keeps crashing and I need to reboot to get clear sound.
    So I ended up getting a Ryzen 5 2600X

    Wrong. So many people get confused by this...

    Ryzen = 1000 series
    Ryzen+ = 2000 series
    Ryzen 2 = 3000 series

    Ryzen 1 = 1000 series = zen uArch
    Ryzen 2 = 2000 series = zen+ uArch
    Ryzen 3 = 3000 series = zen 2 uArch

    yeah if can afford it later on I might look at upgrading the CPU depends how this performs though. Tomorrow I start to build it.
    Have to take the old one off the wall, disassemble the water cooling and old PC then I finally get to build the new one.

    In all seriousness, AMD could have been more clear about the naming scheme, but it's not a huge deal since it's just us obsessive types reading articles or watching tech videos daily that know there's any difference.
