Look out for sales soon http://games.on.net/article/15597/GAME_Australia_Goes_Into_Administration http://www.atomicmpc.com.au/News/300627,game-over-for-game-australia.aspx
I should've saw this coming. Skyward Sword went from $99 to ~$50-60 instore shortly after I bought it, and it appears to have been hovering around that price since. I want Games Wizards back but it might've suffered the same fate but just a change of market identity. I wonder how Game Traders are going...
http://www.lifehacker.com.au/2012/05/is-it-safe-to-buy-from-game-australia-now-that-it-is-in-administration/ some interesting comments - especially about giftcards
that grinds my gears.... they have already taken the money for the GCs but then refuse to honour them the posts by Job about GAME making staff push preorders on the weekend is pretty damning.
It sounds the same as what BORDERS did, not honouring GCs unless customers match the face value of it, effectively not making any principal use of the GC at all.
It sounds like the 4c-off-per-L fuel vouchers from Woolies and Coles. You only get them if you spend more than $30 in-store. Seems somewhat more fair enough compared to what BORDERS tried to pull off.
Err... No. Not more fair. Borders required you to match your gift card usage dollar-for-dollar (Ratio of 1:2). i.e. if you wanted to use a $15 gift card, you had to buy something worth $30 and pay $15 cash + $15 gift card. GAME want you to match your gift card usage at a ratio of 1:4. i.e. if you want to use a $15 gift card, you have to buy something worth $60 and pay $45 cash + $15 gift card. Them's the breaks of gift cards, though.
If I had a $100 voucher, but was advised that I was required to spend $300 to use it, I would simply shoplift the worth of my voucher, and leave it on the floor.
I'm sure it's crossed the minds of a few ... I'm in this situation and trying to decide what to do.. Given that it's a 1:4 spend ratio to use the credit I feel there's a good chance GAME will not make it out of administration. They're going to block the purchase of PSN cards as well ... no doubt looking to rake in as much 'cash' as possible as quickly as possible with items that have a profit margin. I'm tempted to buy a PS Vita just to use up the credit, but it's not something I particularly want to do.
Well simply put that is not shoplifting at all, you are making a fair exchange for the goods with money the company has already banked. They can cram their "new conditions of use" for gift cards. If you were to try this, I doubt you would find that the store is able to do anything to stop you (aside from withholding the stock). Police may get called, but it'll be deemed a civil matter and they'll stay out of it. Note this is not legal advice. It's an opinion. And if anyone attempts this, get a mate to record it for your own evidence (and our amusement)
didn't see this coming... ohwait.jpg +1 this "u want me to spend more money to be able to recieve the goods or services that are already paid in full" glwt not that it matters much, only ppl who buy gcs from places like this are gradmas for 12yos who exchange them for pokemon games
As much as it's "good" to see an overpriced retailer go down... At the same time the plain and simple fact is that there is now one less gaming retailer in the country and thus lowering the competition. Less competition is not a good thing.
