So, I had noticed that elvis got a little burned out by doing GoTM, I'm sure we have all noticed how successful the retro racing club has become, however I think it might be time to have some alternate non-racing games contributed by you all, not just suggested. Doing up a GoTM isn't overly difficult and quite frankly it can be very rewarding sharing a game you love with others and having them play along with you too.

elvis has contributed many many games already so be sure to refer back to what has and hasn't already been played and the racing club is in fine form (although Boneman just might be an alien or something, such is his prowess) so we are happy to keep it running in tandem.

So the format is simple, we have this thread - you nab a month, then copy the format from the FAQ into your thread, on the first day of the month or last of the previous post your thread. That's it, fun ensues (unless you make us all suffer through a terrible game - this is not out of bounds anything goes!).

I will tentatively start with a six month schedule for you all and this thread will be pinned so we can refer back to it as necessary, the first game will roll out in a couple of weeks for November (if you can stay away from your Cyberpunks and PS5/XBSX's long enough).

If you decide you don't want to follow through please let us know in the thread and we can just slide the schedule back to fill the hole you leave in our hearts.

If jimbogimp is getting a bit snowed by coming up with stuff we may even build the racing club games into this format as well.

Be sure to check this thread to make sure you aren't making us play something we've already played before - oh and racing games stay in the rrc for now.

    So, that's it. Get nominating!

*edit - you only need to grab a month and can decide on your game at the time giving you plenty of time to think. This thread only keeps track of which user has grabbed what month, I will be sure to be sure to put a link to their thread and game at the time though.

There’s 3 old games I want to play at the moment.
But I wouldn’t commit to nominating any of them just yet, if I do a write up, I’ll then make some nominations when it’s done and I’m ready to play.

The 3 (2 I’ve actually wanted to play again for a few years now) will all use different methods as a means to play them, I plan on playing 1 via emulation, 1 on original hardware and 1 on a computer built just for it.
As this is the most cost effective way for me to play each game.

So many games not enough time.
And that’s probably the problem people will have nominating and doing write ups.

I have to get off my ass and finish more old computers.

If people are looking for inspiration, here's a couple of great lists to look through:

    Lemon64's top 100 C64 games: https://www.lemon64.com/games/votes_list.php

    Lemon Amiga's top 100 Amiga games: http://www.lemonamiga.com/games/votes_list.php

Wikipedia "List of video games considered the best": https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_video_games_considered_the_best

Hardcore Gaming 101's top 47,858 games of all time: http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/hg101s-top-47k-games-of-all-time/

Time Magazine's best 50 video games of all time: https://time.com/4458554/best-video-games-all-time/

Metacritic's top video games of all time: https://www.metacritic.com/browse/games/score/metascore/all

If that's too mainstream for you, Racketboy has their "hidden gems" category (worth noting that Racketboy used the term before YouTubers over-used it, so don't hate on the title), organised by platform (mostly console focused, although there is a PC/GoG section):

you've just struck one reason for GotM - it's to force yourself to just get in and play that game you've been "meaning to play".

Ooh, I've been meaning to check that out after stumbling on the various soundtracks in the Retro Music thread. But I'm currently getting my PC platform together with a Yamaha OPL3 sound card.

I've been playing Fantasy Zone on 3DS and SMS, and I think it's a great mix of well-known classic and overlooked by people that haven't played it. So I'll book into the next slot for the "Fantasy Zone series".

Yeah, I'm happy with November. I noticed there's some great reviews in the "retro games you should play" thread, we could line those up as well.

I think a few of those are already done, but people posting there should bring them over that'd be pretty sweet. There's so much good stuff out there.

I am so tempted to pinch December there's a game I'm planning on playing this Christmas.

Oh also I don't know if i made this clear but grab a month and you have until then to decide what game you want to put up.

In that case, can I book March please.
that will give me enough time to decide, do a write up, and get it approved and/or updated with info I don't know for the OP.

edit: since I'm discouraged from suggesting a racing game, ( I don't want to tread on toes) I've picked a game that I want to play for the first time.

I've let jimbogimp know that if he gets stuck, I will do a write up for a racing game. if I don't hear anything, I can easily just turn it into a retrospective review and chuck it in the racing club thread.

alrighty, you have been added FIREWIRE1394 for March!

I am pretty sure jimbogimp has indicated in the past someone else can do a racing club game, but we shall leave that in his court.
