Two days ago, this appeared on Ozbargain

    (1) Asus TUF Laptop with AMD Ryzen 7 4800H CPU, 8GB RAM, GTX 1660Ti, 512GB SDD, 144hz $1,283.56 Delivered @ Amazon AU - OzBargain

    Seemed pretty good value..
    Ryzen 7 4800H ~ to the 3700X (8 core 16 threads) ~$450
    GTX 1660Ti ~$550 (cheapest available)
    Ram 2x 8gb = 16gb - $100
    500gb NVME SSD - $80
= $1180 plus windows 10 Home + motherboard, powersupply, case and screen...

this laptops is beginning to look like great value...

Reviews however are very mixed.. with these as the standout negatives

This was kind of promising ..
    AMD Ryzen 7 4800H Review | TechSpot

After watching some of the reviews above, almost didn't buy... but.. geeze.. it seemed really really cheap and good value..

    Ordered at 10am on Tuesday..
arrived 1.00pm on Wednesday - got to love amazon.com.au delviery..

    Specs arrived

    4800H - 2.9gh, 4.2ghz turbo - 8 core 16 threads
16gb of samsung 2x8gb ddr4-3200 cas 22. (bonus - the amazon listing only said 8gb)
    500gb Micron MTFD 2210 QLC drive Microsoft Word - x2210_QLC_SSD_Product_Brief.docx (micron.com)
and this panel Innolux N156HRA-EA1 Overview - Panelook.com
    Greymetal colour.
    144hz panel..

    12 months warranty..
the additional harddrive cable and screws, where inside the cardboard box... (seveal reviewers have said that there weren't included)... probably lost in their review samples.

    Good News,

I wasn't expecting much, after such negative reviews.. very pleasantly surprised by how nice the machine is.
No blurriness of the "IPS level" panel.. (look like the screen lottery strikes again, and Asus is shipping better responsive panel on the some machines). but still not particularly bright..
Keyboard and trackpad is fine as well..
    ..

room for two M2 ssds and 1 - 2.5inch bay.. Ram and Wireless is upgradable..
the Wifi 5 Realtek cards, seems pretty crap... might need to replace it..

I fully expect this machine, to get hot, noisy and throttle under load..

but heck.. a complete 8 core 16 thread zen2 machine with a 1660Ti, 500gb NVME SSD and windows 10 home with a screen and backlit keyboard, is going to be hard value to beat.. given how much GPUs are going for these days..

Have a look at this Desktop versus laptop GPU comparision..

the desktop 1660ti is on average 14% faster than the Laptop version... or the laptop version is around 12% slower than the desktop.

So presumably the performance of the Gtx1060 / Rx580 level..desktop...

As has been pointed out in the past,

there is no such thing as a bad product .. only bad pricing...

At this sort of pricing (.. it seems like a pretty good buy)..

Spoke too soon, my battery has 6% wear out of the box.. with a reduced capacity of 45kW rather than 48kW..
Else .. the machine seems great..for what I paid for..

The TuF ones come with pretty bad screens in terms of colour gamut, but otherwise great value

Placed an order for this model last week on Ebay with afterpay, $1650 delivered.
Hard to beat for a 5000 series processor, 3060 (laptop spec, 95w), 16gb ram and a 512gb SSD with 2 year warranty.
90w/hr battery and apparently better cooling looks like a good improvement.

Will actually be replacing my desktop PC 90% of the time so the apparently poor screen not such an issue - will only leave the desk if i go on holidays or want to watch netflix away from the desk.
May get a cooling pad + dock to finish it off

run a nitro 5 with an rtx 3060, love it just buy a cooler pad for them though and you can mod the vga bios to 115w with ease. I don't even use my desktop anymore :(, i have the i7 10750h which sucks as without a cooler pad i have to undervolt and downclock it.
