Hey guys, looking to purchase a mic for gaming (bfv and COD) i want some recommendations please...and why you recommend it. I dont use a headset often so would have to be stand alone mic.

    Regards Andrew - T1

It really depends on your budget. I used a Blue snowball for years and it was pretty spot on, It's USB and the stand for it is pretty stable.

You a really don't need to go overkill for voice chat in games.

They are really good microphones but do take up a fair amount of space.
I remember in the 90s when i got a package deal PC from Gateway 2000 or whatever cow pattern company it was and the microphone i got was a space saving slimline thing that was awesome! Wish i kept it.

    Edit: AHA this one https://www.ebay.com/c/1838248125

Been using a Samson Gomic for years, recording quality is crystal clear.

The compact/portable design with the offset clamp might not be for everyone, I mounted mine above my monitor with a VESA mounting plate designed for a NUC

A Blue Yeti. You can put it wherever you want, doesn't need to be anywhere near you comparatively.

Honestly dude, you'd be better off getting a decent headphone/mic combo. Much less space, easier to use, and cheaper.

I got a NT-1 and a Rode boom arm. Complete overkill.

    Outstanding.

Alternatively, if you're also interested in recording audio in just about any other scenario away from your desk, the excellent zoom h1 handy audio recorder, can also be used as a usb desk mic (i love stuff to pull double, triple duty etc). User hadonis is selling a 2nd hand one in our trade forums atm.

Note about standalone mics like the ones from blue - many of them pick up thumps and clacks from the keyboard and general desk noise - this can be annoying as fk to listen to over long sessions  def go the boom arm route - even a cheap amazon basics one will be better at noise isolation than an on desk stand.

some of these prices are ridiculous, just for a gaming mic, casual use. I'm by no means wanting to make videos or anything or think im some big shot you-tuber with the best equipment and do fuck all with it...As per the title, just a simple good gaming mic, not a studio mic that will not get used to it fullest potential.
