Agreed. There is little in filters that cannot be done by machine, as exciting and romantic the idea is of getting things hand made in modern times.

Does anyone have any good instructional videos as to how to capture videos? Like golden rules and stuff (like use a tripod, don't move the camera as much).

Giving this movie stuff a shot.. No idea what the hell to do...

I think you'll find laser cutting probably won't work on the resin without causing at least some side effects, or irregularity... Considering it's optical resin too, it'd give little opacity for heat to work on. I'm with Moda (only an engineering student here though)... frustrating though interesting to see. I have however been involved with the steel industry for the last ten years, and it can sometimes be surprising just how much antiquated technique is still used, in spite of the modern techniques and machines available. My guess is while demand is higher, the outlay to automate much of that process is substantially higher compared to the income they'd see from it in the near future. My guess is the annealing process the resin undergoes is the big hold up, and the rest is slowed down by that.

As soon as I posted in thought of the warping of the resin caused by the laser. Interesting regarding antiquated processes still being used.

    I'm still a student too :p

Yea true, tho I imagine (since the video was filmed in 2010), they've improved their processes, but still, you hear of people talking about Lee filter shortages and what not.

Wouldn't hurt for someone to do a time in motion study, so much double handling :p

Just on the lasers... just for the sake of it, i went back and had a look at what the go was with Acrylic, and it looks like it's being used for it already for acrylic... but still it's a very expensive piece of machinery especially on an industrial level.

Was he walking around posing with it and stroking it? (rather than actually taking photos with it :p)

Lol... forgot about this from a couple of months ago.

Saw a tourist with a S2... (not sure about the lens... big honker it was) in a bakery at the Rocks.
Two companions... both with a M9 around their necks (One silver, one black), one with the Noctilux and other the 35mm 1.4 Summilux.

Best part was neither of the companions were taking photos... just handing the camera over to the guy with the S2 whenever he wanted to use a focal length!!!!

Who needs a camera bag eh?

Oh so temped to mug them..... hmmm why is my feet following them back to their hotel?

    Ugh.

    Rock....hard place.....no money.

Want to upgrade my computer from a Macbook Pro (pre-unibody) -> i7 iMac.
Want to upgrade my camera from 5D -> 5DII/5DIII
Want an iPad for picture viewing + on the go portfolio (website based).
.....- plus, I want to get the wifi card so I can wirelessly transfer photos over on the go!

All these photographic 'needs', that really aren't needed at all.

Ditch the mac and get a PC. Problem solved, you are now released from the apple chains.

    ;)

Haha nah, I find the adobe suite to be much more intuitive on a Mac. I use PS, AI, LR & ID often and quite like the simplicity of use on a Mac.

I could build a beast PC for a similar cost, but I like using a Mac too much.
