Anyone else find it difficult to get the perfect lens collection?

Of all my lenses I only really use the 17mm, 19mm, 28mm. I use the 7.5mm for skate shots on occasion. I'd really like some good tele glass but I find it either doesn't have the reach, it'd cost more than my car or the image is average.

    Amen.

Stop making excuses, go out and shoot. Us the Iron Photographer comp in the Gallery section to give yourself a theme. Or just walk around your street and make the effort to look for things of interest. There are people taking amazing photos without stepping 5 feet from their front door. Not to mention those not even leaving the house.

The Pro Tog Cheap Camera challenge that DigitalRev does goes a great way towards highlighting that "people have taken a lot better photos with a lot less".

    Here's the latest example:

And as for an OCAU photography meet, would be great to organize one, but I have no idea how to organize a meet.

Anyone ever gone well over the maximum weight limit of their tripod head? What is expected to happen?

I'm looking at a new head for video but it's hard to find much over 5kg and with all my rigging it's atleast 4kg, which can of course increase with add-ons.

    My lens kit is like 10-20mm, 30mm, 35mm, 85mm, 100mm, 135mm, 200mm.

Jack: I just have find you and take your 135mm and 50mm and I'll be set. :Pirate:

The ballhead ceases to be able to grip properly through friction alone and will begin to mechanically fail. So if its only slightly off the centre of gravity, it'll begin to slump to one side. If your gear is really heavy, it might literally rip the ballhead out of the socket or break the screw that's holding the camera base plate to the ballhead.

There should be heaps of heads rated for more than 5kg.

The largest one on fotogenic is rated up to 18kg

    There are heaps.

    What's the budget?

Here is a search for heads under $300 with a rating over 5KG. I have sorted by highest rated for what that's worth.

Its a good place to find what your after but I find Amazon a bit cheaper with cheaper postage options. B&H want $50+ for postage on a head. You can get it for $10 from Amazon. If your spending a lot then you might prefer the more expensive and secure postage option anyway/

I'll say. A lot of editing in those photos. They are not bad, imo.

Make a thread with a Poll with 3 different dates.

Choose a centralized pub or cafe that is close to Public Transport for all.

    Profit.

Not sure on budget but I was looking at Manfrotto video heads most rated to 5-6 kg.

What legs do you have? You may need to replace the centre column if you have 055 or 190 style legs. Then you will have a tough time getting all the different components to have the right load ratings. You will be limited to a 50mm half ball if this is the case I believe.

The 502HD with 75mm half ball is a pretty decent choice if your set on Manfrotto. It can take 7KG with a counterbalance of 4KG. Pretty good for your rig I think. You'll need a (pricey) set of legs which support this though.

    http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/827209-REG/Manfrotto_MVH502A_75Mm_Half_Ball_Head.html

You can step up to the 504HD for something a little beefier but its twice the price.

    All depends on the legs...
