I haven't got one, but I have recently come across these and think they look pretty useful. In particular, I like the wide base, like a tripod. Also, no idea if they are locally available. https://savageuniversal.com/products/light-stands-accessories/multiflex-light-stand/
I've been using these since forever. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/644444-REG/Manfrotto_1004BAC_Alu_Master_3_Riser.html
I bought some of these on taobao https://www.selens-online.com/produ...and-tripod-for-photo-studio-softbox-umbrella/ Best I've used so far, small and lightweight, so they're great for location, very low center of gravity so you can flatten the base since it's folding, I can often use it without anything holding the stand down when used like that, unless wind is strong. Has an extending foot for help in compensating for non flat surfaces, and the centre comes out and can be used as a pole or extension or arm etc.
Thanks, that looks great. Huge advantage in that in folds to ~50cm long. I'd love to find something even shorter but this will do for now. Once I get my AD600 or AD400, I'll have to see if it strong enough for it -- if not I'll look consider one in the $100 range. But I think it'll at least do AD200's. Think I found it on ali @ US $39.90: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32885054775.html EDIT: Ended up buying the light stand + the MagMod knock-off kit with the gels + bouncer for AU $120.80.
It should be if they're mounted in the centre, I have 3 of them now. I use it with a V860II and 1 metre octagon softbox. I also use it with a boom arm and a counter weight on one side and same setup on the end of the boom at full or near full height outdoors for straight down lighting over a subject. The upper portion bows/curves when doing this, worried me a bit at first, but it seems fine, it doesn't bend or break Using a boom arm+modifier with the AD400 or 600 might be a bit much unless it's really well balanced.
Right, lightweight travel cameras. Im still loving my m43 setup, but the OM-D is getting a little old in the tooth. I was toying with the Panasonic GX9, but with the EM5 III rumoured to drop in September im starting to think about holding off. Especially as losing the remote jack makes me sad, and the non fully rotating screen is a pity if i end up doing video lecture stuff on the road. Is there anything else out there on the horizon? Anyone using the GX9?
I've toyed with buying a GX9 as an every day in the backpack camera instead of my G9 but nothing about it wowed me. You have all Oly lenses in the pic too - you're probably better off sticking with Oly as the Panasonic won't be able to use DFD focusing with them and lacks the PDAF of the Oly.
Trying very hard to resist buying this grey: https://www.e-infin.com/au/item/3974/sigma_35mm_f/1.2_dg_dn_art_lens_for_sony_e
2 Oly (25mm, 45mm) and 1 Panny (14mm). But TBH i didnt notice a significant difference with the GX9 and the Oly 25mm using CDAF rather than DFD.
Super happy. Managed to sell my tripod for $470.95 and my Peak Design Backpack for $404.95. I've got so much more I should offload.
I realize some people may not venture into the Iron Photographer thread! But it's coming up to the end of the month and this month any entry is valid as the theme is 'Open' ... it also is open to any photo you have taken since the start of 2019. So if you have been shooting at all this year, submit your favourite Thread & Rules here - https://forums.overclockers.com.au/threads/iron-photographer-august-2019-open.1269017/
I'll be interested to see what the EM5 III turns up with, the specs of the EM1-X pretty much show me they have nothing in terms of a new sensor on the horizon, so not sure what a new EM-5 III, nor even EM-1 III could put on the table that would justify, what I very well expect to be, quite a high price. Z...
Yeah, i reckon ill just wait for the EM5 III, quite a few places are talking October for the announcement.
Hey All Iron Photographer competition is rocking along if you havent dived in yet, we have another month of 'Open' theme with any photo taken thus far in the calendar year of 2019 being eligible for entry (in fact you can enter 2 photos). We also have the voting thread for last month, would be great for everyone to hop in and cast their vote. Click here for this month's Iron Photographer Competition Click here for last month's Iron Photographer Voting Thread
Open... As in the theme is anything?? Ha! I've spent the last 12hours wondering about open doors or padlocks or gates and stuff lol.
I have many more animals opening these mouths wide as heck. I know what I'll be posting again! Bring on strangely specific topics I say!!!
Yep.. same as last month being open theme You can make it about opening things but you know.. maybe a wasted opportunity. The problem is people dont submit when they can submit anything they have shot, then you get specific and its like crickets so would rather build people up to encourage going out to shoot for themes first.
