God does everyone selling camera gear need to have the same cringy description? “You’ll fall in love” “it’s amazing how sharp it is” “makes shooting a breeze” - shut the fuck up

Sony A7c specs we know so far:

    • Similar Sony A7III specs with 24MP sensor
    • It has the same A7sIII fully articulating screen
    • autofocus algorithm is the one from the A7sIII
    • 4k30p
    • body shape similar to the A6600 with EVF in the corner (note: it’s NOT a pop-up EVF)
    • it has IBIS
    • The camera will be marketed for vloggers and youtubers
    • Battery is NP-FZ100,
    • USB is Type-C.
    • it has a single SD card slot
    • It has both a mic-in and a headphone jack
    • Wi-Fi (11a/b/g/n/ac) and Bluetooth
    • price will be above A7III (2.100 Euro and 2399 Euro with kit lens)
    • Comes with a new collapsible 28-60mm f/4-5.6 lens

Looks alright with a couple of small fast primes in the bag. Couldn't be arsed with something like an F/4-5.6 zoom on it though.

    Isn't every camera these days?

Yep, even thought the good vloggers all do it on a mobile phone or 720p webcam heh

To the extent that "YouTuber" now covers a range from "talking head in their bedroom" through to "7-figure short film / documentary series producer", sure. But when they mention vlogging in the same breath you know which end of the market they mean.

Not that I follow a lot of vloggers, but I'm genuinely struggling to think of a channel that this is true of.

pinguinz and bigclivedotcom come to mind

hell, kasey from camera conspiracies deduced that the best vlogging camera was a Sony action camera with what, a thimble for a sensor?

It’s the personality, not the camera. If only people everywhere would understand this...

but i suppose it can't hurt

Ok, fair....I mean, I don't understand WHY he doesn't just buy a real camera, but maybe the channel doesn't actually make any money. Last he mentioned he was shooting those videos with an iPad of all things...

I wouldn't say bigclivedotcom content would be particularly more desirable if he had a better camera. I mean it's not like we're paying out the TheSlowMoGuys for not upgrading from a Samsung S10.

As Hater says, a camera and equipment to get videos to the viewers is essential, but a pricey expensive one isn't a proportionate value add for every vlogger.

I don't think you can say "all the good vloggers use shit cameras" with a straight face.

Camera conspiracies isn't really a good example either as his comedic schtick is that he can't find anything that works despite using Fuji and canon bodies most of the time.

Bigclive would probably use a turnip if he was able.

Also just noticed Digital camera warehouse at Annerley is now shut!!

Does autofocus from A7sIII mean it the same real time tracking in the A7rIV and A6600/A6400?

Real time tracking + IBIS has me interested in an upgrade from my A7s I, I was looking at the A7rIV for that. The A7c also needs to be weather sealed for that price level and a travel oriented camera.

I believe so, either way the IBIS + PDAF af system would be a huge upgrade

The different between the A7iii AF vs the A7rIV etc is making me wait to decide on a gen IV camera

no, but the good vloggers who use good cameras would still produce good vlogs with a shit camera.

I think there are a lot of people in this boat. The A7IV will be the camera for them, but who knows when that will arrive.

Don't use IR OCF triggers in daylight, they said; I'll just give it a quick stab anyway, I said...

    Yeah, nah; don't.

Laowa just announced a 14mm f/4. 228g. “Zero-D”. Available in Leica M mount (the one thing I wanted from the 15mm f/2 so I could use it on any body).

One of the things ive been noticing in the current crop of cameras is several which would make good vlogging cameras have ditched the fully articulated display and returned to just a simple tilt display. e.g. the GX8 vs GX9 etc

Anyway, on a slightly related note, anyone have a suggestion of a m43 camera with clean HDMI out and good external power options? Ive been using my BMPCC via a HDMI capture card for teaching, but due to the flat colour profile (yes, i know this is intentional) I have to run OBS to grade the input and it gets quite laggy. So other than running multiple computers ive been considering picking up another body to go with the lenses i already use.

Would like a Z Cam E1, but they are stupid hard to find now :(

They say smart people learn from their mistakes, and really smart people learn from the mistakes of others.

It turns out that Sony bodies perform a hard format when formatting in camera, meaning any images left on the card are unrecoverable. I just performed the test with Photorec (the best recovery program I have come across) and can confirm.

So if you format cards in-camera, then you should probably make sure your workflow prevents accidental loss of data.
