Wow, are there any tracks like that in Sydney? Those pics have just made me want to get a petrol R/C car now. How much is a fairly cheap one? Where do you buy them from? I've only seen them 2nd hand in the Trading Post.

There's a list of tracks here, and there's a massive online RC store based in Perth here

I've been considering getting one of these for some time now....even though they're totally awesome I can't really justify spending $1000 on something I'm just going to bash around......I think I'd rather put the money towards a more competitive nitro touring car, like a Serpent Impact. Once I've got a decent income I'll probably get one though, and a Micro RS4:

    heres my 2 cars

the car on the left is my electric car, its a tamiya "stadium thunder" - its been a "work in progress" for about 4 years now after i put it in a 1m concrete drain pipe and looped the loop with a locked diff in it, and complete screwed the gearbox in it.
i used to race with it many years ago, but after a bit of a blue with some fag at a race meet i stop racing cause i could no longer stand faggets and there shiny expensive cars who didn't like me because my car looked like a bruised turd and still beat them.
(no offence to the people here who have shiny & exspensive cars)

the one on the right is my nitro car, its called a "hödr"(wtf that acctually says, i have NFI!) i've had it for about 3 years now, i don't use it all that much because it can be a slut to start - the slot for the starter motor disc just isn't quite big enough, so putting a starter motor on it can be rather annoying. and its pretty hard to control once you get past quater throttle (even with 18kg servos its going to dam fast to turn.) which makes it pretty dangerous to drive around at home.
Mind you, when you get it out onto a sports oval, or even better a dirt track, its unreal fun.

    WRC RC Car

This is mine...my wife bought it for me for my B'day. Drives pretty nice, but the petrol motor seems to get quite hot. First petrol RC car I've owned, probably wouldn't buy one again, they are very fiddly and a pain in the ass to use. But when going, it goes pretty hard :)
The cool thing is, its exactly the same colour as my real car, just doesn't go quite as hard :)
Only mods are street rims and tyres as the knobbled rally wheels would wear out quickly on tarmac, cost me $100 tho! Looks like mods in the RC world mimic outrageous prices for mods in the real car world :) I guess bolting on a monster Apexi turbo is out of the question for an RC car tho!

    Rexy.

PS Is it normal for petrol cars to get hot quickly and need to cool down after short run times, even with rich fuel loads?

    Re: WRC RC Car

You probably need a better heatsink head on your engine.

What fuel mix are you running? Do you have windows cut out for better air flow? What glow plug are you running? Is anything dragging in the drive train?

    HPI Nitro MT Offroad

this is a pic from the makers site, my car is slightly modified, but basically the same

it uses the .15 standard engine
    single gear
    all wheel drive
shaft driven (as u can see in the photo), helps when going off road obviously (rocks dirt etc)

i have a modified suspension and springs

soon i'll be buying a new heatsink for the engine, extractor, and carbie

if your talking about my car, i agree, i do have a hard time keeping it going for a decent while due to problems with the clutch and gears, but this is mainly due to the fact i run it on road a fair bit when its an offroad car, putting extra strain on those components

when i'm running in on dirt i only have to worry about busting the suspension or getting rocks jammed up in the gears, it doesnt usually happen
