I have Frsky X7, X9d & X10. All great radios. X7 can be had for just over $100 if you hunt around.
If I was starting from scratch, I'd go a Radiomaster TX16S which will cost you `$200 to your door & it'll do anything you can imagine. A few friends have them now & love them.

Some people love Spektrum stuff but I've had bad experiences & I'm far from alone.

Ended up picking up a Jumper T16. Holy hell what a different beast to the old DX6i.

    Picked up

    Bixler 3
    Volantex ranger 2000
    Eflite glider of some sort
Funjet (with mods so it reaches 340-350kph)

    To go with it.

Ive been practicing with the basic realflight sim (4 planes, 1 field). Is it worth spending the extra $100 on the full version?

    Cheers :)

depends on what you expect to get out of it. if you're intending to train yourself to fly with it, just fly the Bixler and get the real thing unless it's inconvenient to be able to fly regularly IRL.

Funjet will be interesting. would like to try one of these on 6s. https://www.facebook.com/TurbinesRCenglish/posts/337181719782553

Just picked up a hall sensor radiomaster TX16S.. My son will get the jumper T16 now.

I went to fly my FMS glider and the wing spar snapped causing a wing to break off and the whole thing is gooooone. I bought a bixler 1.1 to put the electronics into. Waiting for a replacement part before I can fly the bixler 3. In the meantime I bought a 1.1m wingspan hawker hurricane, a 1.1m wingspan vought corsair ($55 second hand.. all electrics in it. Just needs a bit of glue where the fuselage was hit by something. Just a 10cm crack, no big deal) and was given a 3d printer C130 hercules complete with all electronics to fly it.

So even with the breakage I've now got 7 planes I can fly. I'll probably get the bixler 1.1 out on sunday afternoon.

    30mm 18 blade EDF with a 1106 3800kv 2s .. Purely experimental !
Looks like more work needed on the fan , just needs to grab more air and shove it out the back !

Turns out the motor I had from my FMS glider is the wrong type, mount type and KV for my bixler. D'oh.

Not for $100... better off skipping toy grade and going right to hobby grade, even if you have to buy second hand. At least broken bits can be replaced etc.

    UMX Turbo Timber
    5030 Gemfan , 3D printed spinner

5030 GF costs a lot less than the UMX 3 blade
    5030 GF draws less current
    5030 GF produces more thrust

Spinner and other stuff on Thingiverse , Just search UMX Turbo Timber
I have posted the files needed to run a 2 blade 5030 ( dont want more than that since you need to watch current draw )

We have one too for the Little one. (See previous page) . That's a bargain. Think I'll pick another one up for me too. They're great because parts are plentiful in oz so don't need to wait around for spares like some of the others. They're also tough as nails.

Running 3S pack on it now and it's hilarious.. ,but everything bar the rear Diff has held up well so far.. Eventually chewed through a rear diff, but was being super brutal with it , doing full lock donuts everywhere. $12 for a new one from Aus electronics. So just bought two

Will have to upload a vid of it on the 3s

the old stock 540 12 turn is still alive & its crazy fun like you said.
had to fix my mates older style traxxas & the esc alone was $60

i just put this in mine for $50 https://au.banggood.com/Surpass-Hob...tml?cur_warehouse=CN&ID=519632&rmmds=category
its even faster now, waiting for a tuner to turn up to tone down the punch
it just flips on the tar. the esc is noisey & had to fix switch but for $50 !

supasaiyan sorry i reneged on selling mine but i needed a toy.
