Wondering if anyone's managed to get GIMP to play nice with EXIF for TIFfs? It seems to work fine if you have a jpeg input, but if you're using TIFF it strips all EXIF data.

It seems that, at least as recently as September 2006, libtiff (TIFF library used by The Gimp) does not parse EXIF data. It is aware of the EXIF header in the file, but apparently libtiff, being correct against the TIFF file spec, does not parse "private data" in the file.

So basically, if the interweb is not lying to me, as long as The Gimp uses libtiff to load TIFF files, any EXIF data in said TIFF files will be ignored.

EDIT: source link provided to "EXIF and libtiff" issue thusly

    Thanks, I'll check it out.

Since I was pointed in the direction of RAWShooter, GIMP's now mainly only used for cropping, straightening and jpg-making anyway.

Paint.NET looks good, however GIMP's crop is just so kickass. It's really useful to be able to adjust the crop area, plus it's nice to see what ratio you're cropping to.

The only other thing I noticed was the lack of an easy way to add a border.
