Any suggestions for Chinese or any other restaurants that one shouldn't miss. I've been recommended Flower Drum although it seems expensive are there any others worth considering?

Chinese food is a massive subject!

For dimsum - Secret Kitchen in Doncaster, or Tao Tao House in Hawthorn.

For Cantonese - Crystal Jade in the CBD, Secret Kitchen in Doncaster, Pacific BBQ House (multiple locations, but the best one is in South Yarra), Lau's Family Kitchen in St Kilda (former owners of Flower Drum).

For Cantonese supper style dishes - Supper Kitchen in the CBD, Lantern Garden in Box Hill.

Sichuanese - Dainty Sichuan (multiple locations, best one is in South Yarra. Alternatively, Box Hill if you want a hot pot).

Peking Duck - Quanjude in the CBD. There are a number of cheap suburbian Peking Duck restaurants but none of them are authentic.
