i actually did, and a PC that's bluescreening during a clean install is probably broken.

gonna guess RAM, or a bad OC or something.

Maybe I need to be totally clear.

    1) Tried upgrade install: unstable as fuck.
    2) Tried fresh install: has crashed a few times but could have been the application - though I'm surprised apps can still take down the OS.

App: drive snapshot - Used for restoring the 7 backup to vhd. It may be using lower level access than most apps though.

Hardware is all completely stable otherwise at the same speeds it was before - (xtu cpu/mem stress tested overnight fine, and gamed fine.). The issues were apparently software.

Because I thought they'd figured out the whole "don't let apps kill the OS" issue 20+ years ago with NT/2k/XP when BSODs caused by apps were rare.

I can't recall an app crashing 7 for example.

Because it happened 2-3 times when doing the exact same thing in that same app while nothing else was running - and it hasn't happened any other time.

    I'll look later.

    It is.

    Yup

7 also does this. Just disable sleepy hdd's in control panel->power.
Maybe you had some drivers which meant this didn't happen in 7? Unsure.

Some more stuff to simplify 10.

Thanks. Did the first a few days back - and another couple of tools.
Not entirely keen on a different shell just because of one stupid feature, but I'll check it out.
I'll look at the 3rd but it doesn't look to have that much extra over other tools.

The third is just automation of other tools and simplifying the interface.
Openshell only changes the start menu.

I can. So can anyone who's managed Win7 in a business environment.

I'm going to start selling rose colored glasses with the Win7 logo on them and make a fortune.

Or is it tomorrow/overnight? Given these things usually go off Redmond time.

I think you can still upgrade with Windows Media Creation Tool and choose upgrade and keep everything (not clean install!) with a validated Win7 or 8/8.1
