Another revival, anyone been using their Festival of Food app? Still 37 days left if not. We've only been to The River Cafe so far, but am going to book in The Playford today.

The River Cafe was ok, though it still cost me $160 even with the FOF app. The entree tasting plate was bland, but the goat tagine was amazing, and a massive serve. Service was good also.

EDIT: Just booked into Appellation as well for next month when we are staying in the Barossa. Anyone been there?

Nah never even heard of it.....do they advertise this stuff?

Getting on to it now though.

No not really lol, I found out about it last year when we got the pamphlet in the post. The phone app makes it loads easier though, except you have to log in every single time which is annoying.

You see this is an issue I have that irks me.....a lot of this sort of thing I only hear about incidentally through friends etc. They just need to advertise this stuff more.

I guess they don't want their restaurants full of cheap yobbos only lobbing up for a "pub priced" meal.

As I said above we still spent $100 on top of the voucher price on wine.

Stupidly booked The Playford for tonight at 7pm  right when the footy starts.

Playford Fri night was excellent, albeit the setting wasn't the greatest and it was quite loud.

Entree was the tasting plate, which was ok. the goats cheese and lemon marmalade was a bit meh, but the barramundi was great.

Mains I had the pork belly, and my partner had the Duck leg pie. Both were great. Dessert I had the affogatto and Lisa had the rhubarb brulee, both were great.

Last night I visited Appellation. Let's just say it's not worth the $350 it cost. I would honestly stay away. I can give more detail if people are interested, but it's just so underwhelming I left thinking "I really just spent $350 at a place that won't use tablecloths because they take too long to iron every day"?

I hear Alphütte is now up for sale.....owners getting a divorce or something?

They don't even open up on weekends apparently.

so sad... an iconic restaurant in Adelaide.

it was the talk of the town many years ago... I had one of my wedding anniversaries there and really enjoyed it.

Damn, been promising to take my wife there for years, after reporting back from work do's.
And this is the main reason why we haven't made it there.

Orana is the place I want to visit in Adelaide next, followed by Magill Estate.

Exactly the same for me.....weekends fine, but can't make it during the week. Quite unusual I would think....but I guess they didn't need the weekend cash...

They don't need to - that's when you know it's quality.

My Mum's favourite restaurant, so we go there pretty often, and know the owners pretty well; he's not young though, so maybe it's just time.

Would be a shame if it changed hands - might head in there next week and see what's going on.

I've been out of the dining scene around here for a while now, just wondering with the recent-ish closing of Celsius what else is out there for degaustation/semi- /fine dining around Adelaide.

The ones I can think of so far are:
    -Orana
    -Hill of Grace
    -the new Magill Estates.

Was pretty interested to learn of Auge closing up too.

I remember going to Alphutte in the early 2010s for a West Torrens Council function and not thinking it was really anything special?

It's probably not quite as up-the-nose as other restaurants mentioned in this thread but my GF and I went to Ruby Red Flamingo the other week...was bloody awesome (and had my first proper Amaretto Sour in many years...)

Press Food and Wine was exceptional when I was there in Nov 2015.

Pretty sure I had this or similar for my mains:

    hereford pepper rump, confit onion

Afghan place in Prospect on Main North Road next to the Cheesecake Shop - this place is so awesomely good and costs next to nothing - tempted to fly back just to go there!

Is that north or south of Regency road? I go down there all the time but can't recall the Afghan eatery. I'm guessing down the northern side....

    In the old tyre store.
Always drive past it and wonder what it is like.
