I've adopted a new cat. Her "blurb" at the orphanage said her people couldn't look after her any more, so I'd assumed that the name she had at the orphanage was her name from before. Now, I'm not so sure that it wasn't just given to her at the home, because she doesn't seem to recognise it. She doesn't turn when you say it or show any signs that it's "her" name.
So I'm thinking I might change it. Any suggestions for a good short (has to fit on her tag) people name? She's a tabby, with black stripe down her back, and black tail and the rest black/greyish and beige.

hmmm, I don't think she looks like a Cleo. No, I don't think she's deaf. If I call out 'puss, puss, puss" or call out to her, she'll come in to see me, and she reacts if the dog barks, stuff like that, she just doesn't respond to her name. She is young so maybe she's just too distracted looking around at everything to care, but you'd think there'd be some reaction.

Pretty standard cat behavior, don't see a way around it short of calling the cat *sound of shaking a catfood box*

    Catwoman?

    Selina?

    Flipper?

    Give us a photo?

Do you like human names or non-human names?

human/people names. Can't do a photo at the moment, I've lost/misplaced my camera.
all of my other cats knew/know their names. It might be because she's young and hasn't yet learnt, or it could be that it's not really her name from before.

My daughters cat has the name " Little Miss Sassy Pants" which was a joke that stuck. The reason why is you can pet her ever so briefly before she literally changes her mind and swats and bites you! That cat follows Ella everywhere around the house like a dog. She's the only one that can actually pick the cat up and carry her around. Yep. lol.

This one just keeps running off. She's only a kitten, and she's just getting used to the place, so it's understandable. What was that movie with Sally Field with all the multiple personalities? Maybe I should call her that. Sybil..... She's all calm and cuddly at the moment, she's even purring.

Gwen's a nice name. It's funny how you can select/like a lot of different names but the one you end up with is one that seems to "fit" (when really you could call them anything)

My son called our latest cat Isabella, but we all call her Fizzle cos she bounces and fizzes around the house (then crashes).

Whatever you call your cat, the test is:

Go outside when there are people around. Yell the name three times into the street.

Do you feel stupid yelling that name? If yes, change name. If no, it's a good name.

    Z...
