Hey guys just wonderings what's a good middle priced HD 42" Plasma.

There is lots of info on here on the SD Plasma's but not much talk about HD

Reason why I want HD is for when the XBOX360 comes out and HD DVD's I think we will see a huge advantage of the HD Plasma's.

Probably the best plasma television I could think of that comes to mind that is just behind the Pioneer PDP435HD and the Fujitsu.

    The Panasonic TH-42PV500A RRP$4999.

With a bit of haggling I think it can be had for $4200 or less. (I think. I haven't really checked the threads).

As shown on DBA and other fourms, most people are getting these for about $4100 inc 5yr warranties.

$3600 without (wouldnt eve buy a screen without one though)

Easily the top HD bar maybe the Fuji (a lot more $$$) and has the best blacks of any plasma in the market (independant contrast, colour and depth tests done)

Also, having HDMI/HDCP will help with those HD fears of yours.

I will say though, watching the x360 run at 720p on my Pana 50a (SD) was simpy stunning, cant see much difference running on a HD TBH, but thats subjective as always.

I have a Philips 42PF9966. Good, middle of the road screen. HD, component, HDMI, Ambilight mood lighting etc...

I love the ambient lighting on the Philips. Fortunately I hate the user interface on these panels. Used to drive my customers nuts.

Pretty much what has already been said.

    Recommend
Pioneer PDP-436D (or 435, negligible differences AFAIK)
    Panasonic TH-42PV500A
Hitachi 42PD8800TA (remote controlled swivel stand  :D)

Eventually comes down to you personal preferences.

Could also look at the Samsing PS42S5H. Never watched it for than a passing glance.
All panels are 1024x768 except the Hitachi which is 1024x1024.

    XBOX360 HD = 720p != HD plasma

720p = 1280x720, most HD plasmas are 1024x768 (some 1024x1024), and maybe 1366x768 (though maybe this is lcds and not plasmas). For NATIVE resolution, a lcd or projector would suit, otherwise you will get some squeezing of the image, though of course more res than a 'ED' plasma (just keep in mind it wont be 1:1 pixel mapping regardless of which plasma you get)
