Couldn't find a thread around this which surprised me.

    Google AI Challenge!

Wondering how many other OCAU members are participating.

I'm finding it difficult to get any higher ranked then low 2000s with my admittedly limited programming skills.

I've entered, I seem to be fluctuating between 1400-1800 (http://ai-contest.com/profile.php?user_id=13529).

That was with a few tweaks to the standard bot that they provide (increased number of fleets, changed the planet valuation scheme, added a check to see if it would be better to be defensive or offensive (and act accordingly)).

I've started writing a new bot almost from scratch that I'm hoping should see sub 1000 rankings.

If I had known about this earlier I might have entered. I've been looking to start a fun project that's not too big, and AI is always interesting. With 11 days to go there's probably not much point.

How long does it take to see results of your bot? If it's pretty quick, I might give it a go. :)

It seems to be pairing my bot against another every 30 mins or so (you can see the games here: http://ai-contest.com/profile.php?user_id=13529 ).

Only took me a few hours to modify the sample code and you can upload anytime. It's pretty quick to see results especially if you use one of the sample starter kits.

It also lets you run your bot locally against other example bots etc which is pretty neat.

Cool. I haven't touched AI in maybe 2 years. I'll think about maybe getting setup with the starter kit tomorrow, and tinkering throughout the week. I'm usually tired after work, but will see how it goes. :)

Haha yeah indeed. Or no thanks, it's quite addictive! Wish I'd known about it a little earlier, but I'm faring pretty well despite the late start http://ai-contest.com/profile.php?user_id=13431
