Good news! Google Drive is live and kicking - get in there and get your account setup :)

Pricing details are also available - doesn't seem like too bad a deal compared to the competition.

As long as you don't change plans and payment never fails you stay on your old plan and price.

I got this last night. Google play told me an update to it was available (didn't even know it was there in the first place unless it came with ics?) Maybe it was just telling me it was available. Who knows. Haven't tried to use it yet but there is a desktop client, android and iphone client.

Pretty much looks like a re-branded Docs at the moment. I'll try to uploading thing and report back.

Everyone will get it eventually, but it looks like they will roll it out gradually over the next week or so.

    Google Play = Android store?

Yeah, it is pretty much just Docs, but with a client to sync to your desktop and an API to whack it into every application under the sun.

^ Yeah Google Play is the new name for Android Market

All right, so it creates a new folder on your computer called Google Drive (duh) and its just like any other folder. You drag/drop stuff there and done, within a couple of minutes it's synced to Drive.

I wonder if you can install games there? =P

The folder is located in your user directory. Each file icon shows a tick if synced or a couple of blue arrows when it's being uploaded.

Such as? What do you mean? So you can install programs to the G drive? Are the files cached locally?

    http://portableapps.com/

But its more things like Notepad++, PuTTY (KiTTY), Keepass that I keep on there.

You can't really "install" stuff to Dropbox/Gdrive, because there is no benefit if you go to a different PC, but portable apps like the ones from that website don't really install, they just run where they are so they are perfect for this.

that is a brilliant use of storage! Good idea.

Anyone have any ideas of what we will see come out of the APIs? Anything floating around? Love how it ties into gdocs as I use that alot.

Seems like for the time being it'll be linking your online storage with online services - some of the examples are pretty nice, like using online image/video editing software directly access your Gdrive - means you don't have to upload/download the files.

Imagine if there was a "Google Drive" button here in vbulletin - you could insert images or insert links to items very easily. At the very least they need it in Gmail now :wired:
