can someone please confirm whether or not the GoPro Hero 2 accessories can be used on the GoPro 3 Black Edition?

I have a battery bacpac from the Hero 2 and will be buying a Hero 3 Black Edition so wanted to know whether I have to buy a Hero 3 specific one or can carry over my old one?

    Cheers,

I'd say not at all. The 3 is physically smaller than the previous models.

Actually I believe most of the bacpacs are compatible, just not the regular battery. I think the cam is the same height and width, just not as deep, so the backpacs still fit ok. I had a look on the GoPro free forums and there are some comments there suggesting at least the LCD bacpac works.

Where is the cheapest to get a Silver edition?

As far as I've seen direct from GoPro themselves looks cheapest at $299+$10 postage... Unless I'm missing something?

I'm trying to convince my wife and mother-in-law to go in shares in a GoPro for me for Christmas :)

I'm not sure how much I'd use the WiFi feature but I think I'd be silly to go for a Hero2 now over the Hero3 Silver... right?

It won't be $10 postage (that's only the US postage price).

Actually go to check out and see the price of shipping. It's definitely not $10

Buying my Hero3 Black with Battery BacPac cost ~$85 postage with FedEx.

Couldn't select anything except Fed Ex to Australia. Good ol' bait and switch!

    Ah I didn't see that...

Hmm well that makes the Hero3 Silver almost double what the Hero 2 is... So that makes the decision less clear-cut and less easy...

Unless there is somewhere cheaper in Aus?

I just bought a HD2 from Torpedo7. It was $299 which is $100 cheaper than anywhere else I have seen. I think it is free shipping over $150.

Only thing I might miss is WiFi.

You can get the Hero2 for around the $220 mark at a number of online camera stores (check on shopbot...)

Best price for Silver seems to be about $350. A mate here at work has a mate who works for a bank and they have some deal on retail stuff and can get it for $330.

Should be able to pick up a 2 for $220 to $235 from HK or similar.

This is why I went for the Hero 2. Much later, when the Hero 3 is mature and there's proper app support for it and the price has come down, I'll upgrade. For now the Hero 2 has all I need. Couldn't go wrong for US$200.

When I ordered from Gopro.com the estimated shipping date was 30/11/2012 and now the date on the site has moved to 10-12-2012 so either they have lots of pre-orders or they have delays or both.

I wonder if that means yours shipped on the 30th Nov and only new orders as of now will ship on the 10th Dec? I guess you haven't received any shipping advice?

Apparently the first shipment of blacks arrived yesterday and was sent out to retail stores today. They have pretty much all gone to pre-orders, however if you hunt hard enough you may find one somewhere. A guy on the gopro freeforums said he found one at JB in Brighton (Melb). Another couple of shipments apparently due before Christmas.
