    Dayum, thread's dead

After a long hiatus and hearing some good shizz about GW2, I grabbed Path of Fire last week. Been an enjoyable and even nostalgic experience so far (return to Crystal Desert/GW1 roots!), excellent story pace, and thrilling map exploration with the new mounts! I struggled to get into Heart of Thorns, but this is definitely worth checking out again guys!

Trying to save money for griffon huehuhue

But the comments from a few years ago still ring true. GW2 is a massive grind for a lot of things but it's kind of fun in small doses.

The mounts have added some new ways to explore the world. The 5 mounts all have their own functionality.

Is Guild Wars 2 still popular, how is the community and events?

    It is still popular!

The latest expansion Path of Fire (PoF) was released on 21st September so there has been an influx of players because of that.
The majority of players will now be on the HoT (Heart of Thorns expansion) maps or the PoF maps for events but you'll still see people around on the core maps (just don't expect them to come running to do some event with you like they usually do on the HoT or PoF maps).

The community is and always has been amazing. Very friendly in general and people are often happy to help you out if you shout out in map chat or in your guild chat. I believe this is mainly due to the individual loot/rewards system where you never lose out on loot if someone helps and often it is required to group up to complete events or bosses.

The sub reddit is very active, but you'll mostly see veterans of the game complaining about random things =P . Overall the game is very good and has a huge amount of quality of life things that you don't find in other MMOs so it is enjoyable to play.
Avoid the official forums of course ;)

Crystal Desert you say? Dan I might have to grab it then. Guessing you need path of fire to get there - give you the mounts too?

Path of Fire gives you mounts, yes - and they're a really good implementation.

Do you need to buy the Thorns exp to get the path of fire one?

Two separate expansions. You can buy either (or both).

Is the thorns one really required though as I imagine all the content has been surpassed by the new one.

Neither are required. You need HOT for some specializations and the maps. Also gliding etc.

Heap of new players came over from the failure of BlessOnline.

I think there's another sale on right now for the expansions. Both are really worth getting.

Gliders and mounts look good. Looks like a lot skill changes/addition have happened since i last played so going ot have to relearn it all.

Depends on when you left, I came back few months before HoT
there was a major change to how the specialisation works to make the system more straight forward, then ever since it's just slight tweaking the specs in the trees

I jumped into WoW during last week's free weekend every since Cata, I was totally lost with the skill tree

Yeah the last time I stopped playing was just before HoT was released. I think the new tree was in then, and I just told it to copy the cannon build on my ele.

I've just bought the expansions and reinstalled the game as well, I'm sort of up to speed with the new stuff and working on catching up a bit. I'm about to build a Bifrost, I didn't realise how close I was to making it. Just need a few shardsof Zhaitan and the precursor, so I'm working on legendary crafting to get back into it, although I reckon I'll get a drop before I'm done with that, I've had 2 previously.

    I'm on SoS.

The new Chest of Dungeoneer you get from Dungeon Frequenter achieve will speed the process up, story mode counts too

worlds will be a thing of past possibly in a few months time, dev said they will merge all NA worlds into a single NA server with WvW alliances; really it doesnt matter which world you in already for PvE with mega servers

Got the Bifrost pretty soon after that last post, I had the shards and then got 5 black lion keys with some gems I had. Got a permanent contract for either a merchant or TP, sold it for 750G, so I grabbed The Legend off the TP for about 490G.

Since then I've played through the PoF story and started HoT, still doing the legendary crafting, but if you were gold farming to get it, it'd be double the cost of the precursor at the TP, and a lot of the collections are time sinks on top lol.
