Today I made Gingerbread Men. The following post will show how you can make them too.

    INGREDIENTS

To make Gingerbread Men, you will need:

    Gingerbread
    • 125g butter
    • 1/2 cup of sugar
    • 1 egg yolk
    • 2 cups plain flour
    • 1 teaspoon of bicarb soda
    • 3 teaspoons of ground ginger
    • 3 tablespoons of golden syrup

    Icing and decorations
    • a ton of icing sugar
    • a bag of M&Ms
    • sprinkles

    METHOD

    1. Cream butter and sugar in a mixing bowl
    2. Add the egg yolk and mix in thoroughly
    3. Sift all of the dry ingredients in to the mixing bowl and mix through. By now your gingerbread dough should start to stick together and allow you to roll it into a ball.
    4. Roll the mixture out on to a lightly floured surface. The dough should be 3mm deep, or thicker depending on your tastes. I prefer mine a little thicker.
    5. Cut the dough out with a man shapped cutter, or any other shape that takes your fancy. Place them on a tray lined with greaseproof paper and put them in the oven for 13 minutes at 190 degrees celcius.

After you have allowed for the Gingerbread Men to cool, make up some icing by mixing your icing sugar with warm water. I am unsure of the portions I used here, just keep mixing in icing sugar until you get a consistency you are happy with.

Spread some icing around the head to form the base for your Man's hair. Pour sprinkles over the top of the icing sugar to complete his hair do. With a piping gun thing, make three small dots vertically down his chest. Stick M&Ms on to these dots to give your Gingerbread Man some snazzy buttons.

Last, but most important of all, is the face. I like to buy the tiny tubes of coloured icing to draw the face in. The keys to success here are personality and variety. Don't draw the same boring face on every one, make some of them happy, sad, angry, crazy, give them facial hair, or glasses or something. Each Gingerbread Man should tell a story.

Here are some I prepared earlier:

    Top effort on the decoration!

If you were close I'd swap with you some shortbread and lemon butter.
