copy/paste from an email I received....

    Hi Guys,

I am looking to create a Hackerspace in Sydney.

Hackerspaces are community-operated physical places, where
people can meet and work on their projects.

I am hoping that this hackerspace can provide a space for:
    * The learning and sharing knowledge
    * Presentations and Lectures
    * Social activities including games and parties
    * Electronics hardware, power, net, servers, laser cutter
    and various tools.

If you're interested in being part of this hackerspace in Sydney
    please fill out this form:

If you don't live in Sydney, but have friends in Sydney who might
be interested you can forward this email to them by clicking here:

If you live in Melbourne checkout the Hackerspace in Melbourne:

If you have any questions what so ever please don't hesitate to
    contact me on marcus@littlebirdelectronics.com

    Cheers,

    Marcus :)

I get the idea of it all.. But how would it actually work?

Where abouts would a hackerspace be located?

All the detail need to be thrashed out.
There is no location yet, and membership model is still being researched.

Convenience is important, but obviously convenience is different for everyone.

they are more or less "workshops" that you can live in.

Think of mythbusters workshop, but in a electronic form. Everyone is always busy making useless shit that has too many LEDs and lack of personal safety.

Sounds like my kinda place :)

If you look up the show "prototype this", that show was founded on a hackerspace shop. Great show by the way :)

    Sounds like a good idea.

Working in the security industry, I'd be interested to see anything related to Electronic / Access Control (Projects, etc).

There just doesn't seem to be enough coverage on such intriguing systems!

Looks like things are starting to move along and a big initial turn out. I would be interesting in getting involved if I could find the time. There will be a lot of administration issues and maybe the difference between this working or not. How are the other states going and managing the logistics/admin?
