That seems pretty harsh considering that episode 1 and 2 were 5 hours each. While length is good, I'm more hoping the game has some kind of replayability or multiplayer. It will definitely work on all PC headsets.
Major Half Life fan but completely indifferent to the VR thing up till now, if this is what you need to spend I'll be waiting a bit longer.
I only recently spent $5k on a new rig, I can't afford to spend another $650 on a VR headset (especially not one that sells your soul to facebook). I'd be fine if it wasn't VR exclusive. Besides which, just have a look at what percentage of steam users have a VR headset: https://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey The numbers were better than that when microsoft decided to ditch windows phone.
March 2020, free for Index owners.supports multiple headsets. https://store.steampowered.com/app/546560/HalfLife_Alyx/
I will say visually this is exactly what I would expect in a next gen Half-Life game; familiar yet much more detailed (eg. hairs/spines on the head crabs).
Index is the current top tier headset, it also features new controllers that to anyone familiar with VR will note Valve are deliberately showing off the new features of with this game.
i did read they've also got a new voice actor for Alyx sure to upset the purists but it's so long since i heard her that i won't notice.
1) I love kiwi accents. Like, for reals. Makes me happy when they show up in things. 2) If anything pushed me over the edge to get VR, this could be it. Once wireless units become standard and affordable, I'm in.
You spent $5k without a VR setup in 2019? Shame on you rick! Index is miles ahead, but not even officially available in Aus yet.... and 3 times the price!!!
I was so not keen on this, but watched teh video. The hype is real. I really hope there is a non-vr version because I'd prefer not to sell my left kidney to play a game. 100%, after recently playing through Black Mesa, HL2, Ep1 and Ep2. This seems like a natural progression on the art and stylings. 100% feels like it fits in with the rest. Just heaps more detailed and higher definition.
I've half a mongrel now. This will probably push me towards getting into VR if the minister of finance permits, can a 2nd monitor display a running game while using a head set or is it too much for the GPU? I sincerely hope that it has the amount of game play time that you got out of the old HL games and that they will release it in "normal" mode after they have maxed their VR hardware sales.
