Heh, the dude's voice sticks out. Not just because he's a Kiwi, but it's pretty obvious. I was watching the new Voltron on Netflix with the kids a year or so back. Stood out like dog's balls.
$1600ish to ship one in. They might add Aus to the available countries between now and march hopefully.
Not sure about Index but there's a good chance Rift S (or Quest with the link cable) will go on sale on black friday next week. Odyssey+ is also an option. Nobody should be buying an original Vive at this point. It's outdated.
There's still time for it to be canceled. This is valve we're talking about... There's really been nothing that I wanted to play... the cost of the new rig was because I want it to last 10 years like my old rig did.
Just realised, Alyx comes for free to owners of the index whether you buy it now or bought it in the past. Its on the steam hardware page. Also, if you have any VR headset and get the valve controllers, you get Alyx for free. https://www.half-life.com/en/alyx/vr#owner
Announcement trailer looks excellent, It's practically HL3! #hype This could be the shot in the arm that VR needs and Valve have the money to fund it.
My apologies... I missed that! I realise now that I clicked on your video and completely ignored what you wrote! haha
In my opinion nobody should be buying a Vive Pro or Rift S either. (Although the Rift S is a nice budget headset I guess) The FOV is simply way too low, combined with outdated controls, inferior tracking on the rift, lower resolution and massive SDE (even more on the Vive Pro due to AMOLED screens) The Valve Index would be the best overall headset by far. The Pimax has some great advantages on the Index (Resolution/SDE and FoV) but simply isn't anywhere near as polished as the Index.
Very hyped for this. Looks unreal. Are there any 'el cheapo VR headsets floating around, that will work with SteamVR? Anything on Aliexpress or the like? Hesitant to drop a lot of coin into a VR headset for one game, but also wanting the ability to play it... EDIT: Just read this on Reddit; My personal reccomendations: -iVRy (on Steam) 10,99$ depending on where you live it may be different -A phone (Android or iOS) 99,99$ if its a used phone, if you already have a phone thats good -An Xbox 360 Kinect (with the adapter for pc) 34,99$ with the adapter -A VR headset for phone (you can find one at best buy or walmart) 13,99$ -KinectToVR (to connect your Kinect to your PC, no controllers needed) Free Would that all work?
Just watched the trailer, looks amazing. Some serious developers involved in it too. Now to source a VR headset...
None of those will work, at least properly. But even if you managed to get some kind of SteamVR thing working, its not going to be "playable" exactly. Here are some of the potential issues 1. Poor gameplay due to lack of knuckles (can't move fingers but you could live without this one most likely) 2. Poor gameplay due to low resolution (you won't be able to see important things) 3. Poor gameplay due to lacking room scale (you won't be able to interact with the world properly 4. Poor gameplay due to lacking controllers (you can't move your hands) 5. Poor Gameplay/motion sick due to lack of headset tracking. (your head movements won't match accurately) And overall, you will probably make yourself motion sick in general from nothing working as expected in game. Your best bet is a second hand oculus kit, but be prepared for some terrible SDE that will potentially ruin the game.
After watching the trailer I'm a little skeptical how the gameplay actually will be. Looks like it will be fairly "On rails" which is just part of the problem with VR. It does look nice and shiny and visually pretty dam good
Surely they will release and at around 6-12 months it will come to PC in Non-VR form for the $$$$$$$$$
