HDD prices

Just wondering what brand 4tb SSHDs are reliable these days as plaining to get 1 or 2 or 1 sshd and 1 normal in next couple of days.

I thought about getting the Seagate 2.5" 1TB ($99~) or the 3.5" 2TB($129~). It's only going to store installed games and Premiere projects. Prices are a bit meh for the additional 8GB SSD bit.

 

There is not really any "reliable" brands as only Seagate make SSHD drives.

As to models, there is not really a range in that area either as you have the older ones, and then you have the 2.5 vs 3.5 sized drives.

If you want a SSHD, just buy the one that suits is the best advice that can be given.

Yep, that one.
USB to Sata adapter, just unplugs, bog standard M9T sata drive. Labelled differently than a retail drive, but with the M9T model number.

Hmmm.. did not realise they were SMR drive..

Luckily I only bought one of the 4tb..

 

Not so interesting when your device has bog standard laptop 9.5mm z-height drive slots.

 

Has anybody done the math on importing WD 8tb drives cheap ?

If you shell the external 8tb WD my book drives, you can import a drive very cheap, or even the 16tb duo drives at $499 USD are a bargain and don't really require cracking the cases open as much, since the drives in the 16tb duo's are self servicing... 2 x WD reds.

The only question comes down to international warranties and whether there is any kind of warranty kill switch (im talking about a way they would even know) if you use the drive outside of the original cases ? Or more to the point, would WD even care anyway ? Has anybody tested overseas warranties ?

 

I've taken the punt on three of these from Amazon UK, at $275AU each delivered I figure it's worth the risk, only problem is they're backordered and probably won't arrive for a month or so.
