I'm still holding out for some form of good sales to come around again, have 2x servers to fill

Was considering the standard WD Reds in 8TB (non-pro) for the "price-to-TB", compared to 10s or higher; shucking will probably be out of the question as it'd be ideal to ensure full-warranty. Have had so many failures in the past even in ideal environments

B&H have the WD 10TB Elements for US$159.49, but there's a limit of 1 at that discount. Conversion and shipping to Australia comes to AU$263. Offer valid until about midnight tonight I think.

Are you shucking them? If so you might need to lookup the kapton tape trick or the 3v adaptors they won't power on in a normal pc otherwise.

If you're just using them via usb as a normal external drive then ignore me!

Anyone know the sweet spot for WD Reds these days? I am considering upgrading my 3TB drives in my NAS to something bigger.

    10TB elements USB HDD.

They are shuckable if you want to use them as internal drives too, I bought six and shoved them in a NAS. You need to lookup the Kapton tape trick though, or purchase the molex power adapters for an additional few $$.

    Do your research!

And next year there'll be 12 of them.
Spaced out roughly a month apart, but mostly on a Thursday (for 2020)

My 4 x 10TB elements USB just arrived from amazon.

Shucking revealed them as WDC WD100EMAZ-00WJTA0.
They idle at a quite toasty 40 deg C and upto 46 deg C for sustained writes.

    For comparison my 4 x ST4000VN000 4TB idle around 34 deg C.

Nice one mate, I got six 10TB last time it was special. Shucked as well also the EMAZ white label drives. Been working very well, next time they go on sale I'll grab a spare just in case I have a disk failure in the next year or so.

Officeworks has those for $290 as well. Picked one up today.
Web site says 290, shelf price said 448, scanned as 290.

Fyshwick/Belco/Braddon all claim to have stock. They only keep an empty box on the shelf, so I didn't see how many they actually have (Fyshwick). I doubt they have heaps.
