    Plus "SHINGLED" Shudder.

    Fine for offline storage but useless for RAID or files that repeatedly get updated/replaced.

    18tb released today, and they arnt shingled. 20's wont be far away,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

    Finally got around to testing the 12tb WD Elements drives I got from Amazon. These are the drives inside:

    Purchase Date - 20 May 2020

    for myself i dont care if it is shingled, as the drives i need high tb+ is only for my plex server. Backups i dont have for that :)
    My important backups are all under 2tb , so that is on external usb ssd drives x3.

    I went against my usual practice and decided to get an 8tb WD. Wish i had kept with my usual local buying of HDDs, because this is what came out of the parcel locker:

    Now i need to go through the Amazon process and decide whether to just send it back or keep it...

    Edit: drive makes loud clicking noise, its going back. Will have to wait another fortnight for my refund.

    True to form too it arrives just after everyone jacks their prices back up after EOFY....

    Its mainly that there is so little packaging inside the big box that they probably just squished it with something. Like there are 4 (flat) air cell things and the packing slip. Thats it.
