I just got a hell of a shock I went to buy another 2tb wd black drive and last I bought this drive from pccasegear about a month or so ago it cost me around $165 and today I go to buy the same drive and it's $289 http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=210_344&products_id=16482
I am putting together a storage server and was going to purchase disks last Saturday and put it off due to the weather, big mistake! Noticed another option about, Hitachi XL3000 3TB Desk Drive available at a lot of places from $149. Checked out the details and it is a standard 7K3000 Hitachi inside, which makes it cheaper than buying the drive alone before the price rise! There's even a vid on youtube about removing them. I orignally wanted 5K3000's due to heat and power but at this price certainly worth looking at.
Yeah 2TB WD Black are around that mark although some places still have then at $200-220 mark. I opted for 2TB Hitachi 7K3000 7200RPM still some around $155-165 mark.
i,m a bit slow and only just noticed yesterday ouch glad i got the 3tb hitachi when i did...$175 it cost me actually looking at arc they still ahve it for 179 but no stock plus the 2tb wd black for 203 so jump on in
Ordered my new F4EGs on sunday before the prices went up on monday $84ea I'm pretty good on the storage front for a while now
Oh wow i was just piecing together a system for some friends and went to check for HDDs, fuck me. What a joke. Pretty much gave my dick aids seeing those prices. Any eta when prices are back to normal (by normal i mean $85 for 2tb) There goes my fking raid expansion =(
man wish I knew about this sooner, would have bought some hard drives before the price rise. I guess it will be awhile before prices go down again.
Up even more today. Might have to break out some dvds if I get desperate enough. No way in hell I'm buying a hdd at these rip off prices.
yeah been thinkin it might be time to invest in a bluray burner with some 50gb discs lol yeah i found this after my other secret stash from amazon fell thru they had 3tb external seagates for $110 at amazon last night,(courtesy of choppa, thanks for the headsup) and it was pulled today shame i dont get paid till tommorow or i would have got those. lucky i found the hitachi xl3000 though and there are tons in stock around AUS so gonna work out better anyway. im cashing in all my early xmas presents tommorow as well so i can try and get 10 lol
I just ordered 4 Thanks for the heads up Edit: That Computer Alliance link you had, that doesn't look like the XL in the image?
Nope they are 7K3000 drives. I read somewhere they get a little warm in the enclosure. Surprised being only usb2 they didn't just use the 5k3000's...
Well looks like they are all jacking up their prices on Hitachi XL3000, computer alliance mentioned above up to $179. Only one I can see now at $149 is estore (city software) http://www.estore.com.au/Hitachi_XL3000_3TB_Desk_Drive_HIT0036.aspx There is still 100+ left.
just grabbed two samsung 2TB from centrecom for $96 each. The guy told me they were putting their prices up soon so I got in at the right time . I don't think they have put their prices up yet, I think $96 was where they have been for a while at centrecom, while pccg had them for $85. Since pccg now want $119 per drive I didn't mind spending the little extra on top of the original $85 price at centrecom haha .
Thanks also found from ozbargain http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/55718 which links you to http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0056YNA1Q/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=amznknd-20&linkCode=as2&camp=217145&creative=399373&creativeASIN=B0056YNA1Q which is a seagate 3tb thing for $110 US and then $19 shiping for 2, and a review on the amazon page says that the drive is a Barracuda Green [ but gives no serial numbers..]
That's where I ordered my 4 from. Signed up to their newsletter and got a $10 coupon to use as well. Ordered today and it's already shipped. ETA is monday. Can't complain with ETA as it is free shipping after all.
