    Rip offs :D

On a side note, Hit up your local Retra Vision ;D
In cooma, the local Retra Vision has 2tb External HDDs for 130$ Not exactly the best brand (Buffalo) but its better then nothing.

No idea what brand HDD is in it, but tbh, i couldnt care less, As long as i can fill it to store stuff for a few months, thats more then enough.

Raging! Went to order a 2/ or 3TB and all the prices are though the roof!

Is there anywhere left to get a decent price on them?

Checked our main supplier at work today, bloody hell, what a price hike. RRP for a Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1TB (yes, ONE TB) - $206!!!!!!!

And I waited to buy hard drives for my server, DAMNIT!

guess i shoulda kept hold of my excess 2tbs i just sold but i can't be to much of an ass. sold all 5 of them for $360 so at least someone from the forums got a good deal.

give it a few weeks and they will be $100+ here as well used.

FWIW the situation is bound to get worse as the stock shortens so if you think you can wait it out, be prepared to wait AT LEAST 3-4 months. You guys need to realise

    OEMS > Portables > Channel.

Channel get the scraps of EVERYTHING.

Is there word on actual times yet?
Do we know when they will reach peak manufacturing rate again?
If I knew how long I had to wait, I would definitely consider selling off my 2TB hdds from my (not yet setup) file server.

Once prices come down again I could get more, or maybe even 3TB drives :) I can do without my fileserver for 4 months.

and Seagate took Samsung's HDD division ....
It's all about the economy of scale.
They'll both have share holdings in each other anyway, either directly or through sub companies. Just like Intel owns a bit of AMD - got to have a bet each way you know. :)

I might have to jump ship from being an Samsung boi and go WD again. :(

3 months at least. People don't realise production from other factories can ramp up but it won't cover the shortfall.

^ You just found out about this? Samsung sold their HDD to Seagate, now Seagate is the biggest players.
