Leave him be :p He isn't trying to brag, the man just comes across as a very matter of fact. Is how he is.

Obviously, you're also buying into the marketing a bit too. The HE-1 isn't a perfect system, as good as it gets yeah maybe, but it's the hype and glamour of it that is getting you. You know very well the same money gets you setups that can be as enjoyable. Have you heard a 1266 yet? I have no interest personally, die to the headband, but keen to hear one. Diana Phi with same drivers might go ok.

I've settled on Z1R and Empy, pretty content there. Never gelled with the electrostat sound personally.

I’m only buying the He-1 for collecting purposes. Yes I’ve heard the 1266 shortly after release and just like JPS’ other offering its a overpriced piece of heavy shit.

I’am not overly critical with headphones and such as I used to be because I’m a speakers person now.

Looking for a pair of wired open back pc headphones. Don’t care about the microphone. Just want excellent audio quality and comfort. Budget 200-300. What’s the go here?

    Some options;

    AT R70x (sale / used)
    HD560S
    Grado SR80 (on ear)

PC motherboards and soundcards generally sound average, but gotta start somewhere.

Lot of people seem to like it.

How into music are you? And what type of music?

Use case might help recommend the right one, something you can add a DAC/Amp to later and it'll scale well.

thanks, I am a fan of sennheiser, have used momentum overseas for many years so trust they would do an equally good job with their open backs.

Sennheiser has hit and miss like any brand. I find a bunch of their models either boring or muffled. So going off reviews ...

$350-400 nabs you a used but mint Fostex THx00 Ebony or so. Good deep subbass for electronica.

Lot of cheaper stuff rolls off quite hard in the subbass. Sort of lackluster on electronica.

Generally in these cheaper ranges, a closed back will give better bass performance, maybe consider closed?

nice I’ve looked at those before. Motivation here is really to give open back a go. I say electronica but most of the time it will be used for gaming with open world games. So I guess bass is less of a driver here.

Yeah ok. Well if you're coming from some gaming headset, the 560S will do well.

I think the next price bracket up has some music gems, not so much the sub $300 range.

560 S are the better pair of headphones for mixed usage however the 599 imaging is sufficient for FPS
