Heh, my HD555's are starting to look a bit tired (replaced the cable, still on original pads), but they still sound the part. Did you end up upgrading? Be interested to hear how you went.

I've decided it's finally time to upgrade, but not sure what to just yet. Got my shipping notice on the Schiit Valhalla 3 today, so amp is sorted. Still unsure on DAC/headphones though. Current thinking is Bifrost/Mimir + HD650 or something along those lines.

I'm still going on my original DT880's. Two sets of earpads and headbands, brings them back to like new every time.

These are only my 3rd set of headphones ever for PC use, I had Sennheiser HD201's, then ATH-700's and now DT880 250ohm

I will never replace them, they are perfect, but you need a good sound card to drive them

Well, it's a bit overkill, but snagged a pair of HD800S's on these very forums. They seem to be a bit of a love it or hate it kinda deal, but from initial tests they seem to pair really well with the Valhalla 3. Not overly bright, far more bass than I expected and things like voices and various instruments sound like they're their own thing, rather than everything just kinda mushed together on the HD555's. It's an interesting set and I wasn't sure what to expect, but I'm digging it.

Sadly my amp seems to go into protection mode and cuts the sound if I go much past half way on the volume dial. But sounds like Schiit are happy to just replace it without much of a fight, so yay.

Will grab a dedicated DAC shortly as well as the interference from the PC is horrendous. Got a cheapo isolator from Amazon coming tomorrow as a potential short term fix, but I believe the Bifrost DACs have a decent one built in, so that should sort the problem properly and should really make the entire setup sing. Should be good to go for another 15 years after that. :D

Well, Schiit accidentally sent me a Lyr+..... I gave it a whirl, but it didn't have the same magic so sent it back.
Schiit support were amazing though and ate all the shipping costs, so they've won me as a fan and I ordered the Bifrost DAC while I was waiting. (The amazon isolator was trash and absolutely destroyed sound quality.)

Third time was a charm as the new Valhalla is loud, and the Bifrost is dead silent. Got everything somewhat dialed in now, and with a touch of EQ the whole setup really shines.
Amazingly clear sound. I always thought the old 555s were pretty good, but they just sound muffled/muddy in comparison now. Aint no turning back. :D

power - If you want my old 555s for spare parts to fix yours, you're welcome to them.

I have the AD700's. It happens that I'm on a bit of a techno/edm kick at the moment and I can't say the bass is any weaker than the 8" sub on my awesome Edifier S360DB speakers. Nice and clear through the range. No muddy zones. Strong mids and crystal highs. And so comfy....
I wouldn't mind an extra 20% perceived volume though, it's not quite there for me.
I have no clue how well they'd do for sound location awareness in gaming though, my gaming is limited, but it does well with video surround and great for music playback. I love em'.

When I had a live in partner, she hated the open backs, but now I live alone and they are perfect

This song is perfect for AD700's. If this fits your taste in music, I'd get them.

I have no problem with the ath m50x for closed headphones if you are after a similar experience. or the ATH-M50xSTS if you want to include a mic

Similar to the AD700's but actually have bass - reviews very well, I have the older version and it's the best "all round" headphone I have.

Does anyone use IEMs all day? I currently have some cheap open back Steelseries gaming headphones, which were fine until my wife had to move into my office.

So now I'm trying to decide if I should use my 7HZ Salnotes Zero (I've already ordered a longer cable as I wanted this anyway) or buy one of:
I'll be running these off a Sound Blaster X-Fi Surround 5.1 Pro, but open to a new DAC/Amp if required?

On a side note, if that is Beyerdynamics official Australian website, god damn does it look like a scam website lol

I find IEMs tend to irritate after too long, either prolong use or frequent removal and insertion.

DT770's are decent headphones. I'd go the X purely for the min-XLR cable, so good having a removable cable and being able to swap to a different/more suitable length one
