My tech plans for the holiday season... in haiku... be nice its my first try.... Solid state drives raid Zero, I install windows Witcher I will win
Finishing up my "Frosty Tempest" build. In verse: Twas a fine summer's day, Wherein my computer did fizzle. The grey on grey, The ghastly air flow, Did nary a thing, But reduce the cold. And so it began, My biggest endeavour, To renew life in this Tempest, My trusty old quiver. I went to work, And ordered its things, Drew up some plans, And added some bling. But nothing did it justice, It's look was rustic, It deserved more, And that's when I stopped, Dropped, And sensed what it was missing - Some watery cold. To Germany I went, And precious dollars I spent, On a box of fins, With piping and tubing and pins, To cool the beast that lay within. MORE I said, As I looked at her paint; Her dull hue was aged. So I travelled to the blacksmith, Who gave me a trade, "That'll be $49.50" "Blast!" I said - I was a little thrifty, "Very well, here you go" "Thanks mate, It'll be worth it you know". And he was right. After a duo of days, Of Cleaning and sanding, Of breaking and grinding, And inevitably painting; There she sat, an angel, Internally white, with a shield of darkness, Ready to house a red beast, A toasty fire in snow. But life got in the way, And she became merely a shadow of what she could. And hence this summer, This hot and free summer, She'll be given the glory she deserves. (My old and trusty NZXT Tempest OG, *hopefully will be* fully modded and decked out with a custom water loop and upgraded parts - FX 9590, R9 290, Asus CHV-Z - as well as customised header upgrades to front USB 3.0)
Got a tronsmart ara x5. It's running Win10! Gonna set it to replay movies, and as a mame box Plus, its gonna be botting a Clash of Clans toon when I'm not home... newest of many different bots
Having FTTP NBN installed on Monday and being able to finally stream 1080p I will be: - getting some better sound for the HTPC so I can revisit the Star Wars series with some high quality "bang for buck sound", eye is on Microlab solo9C, - Going to the latest Star Wars, - waiting for the 6th Gen NUCs (08/01/16 is the only release date I have found so far) and then swapping out the wife's and HTPC for NUCs, - testing 3 different routers with the NBN modem to see which will give the best WiFi, - make back up of my three Win7 PCs and consider Win10 on one of these as a trial, - Cloning the wife's Win7 PC image for a NUC, - prepare a back up 5TB (grabbing DATA of the wife's PC and dumping on 5TB) to then become the storage for the wife's NUC, - sell used PC gear on OCAU. Review above plan and refine relative to WTF moments as they occur. Geek it till it Htz .
Hopefully getting Big Bang Theory Lego for Xmas (and trying to mod Penny's hair so it's like her current style)... Taking Ms 13yo to see Star Wars after having explained the back story behind ep 4, 5 and 6), hoping that her ASD won't have her freaking out over the loud sound. Getting time to swim in the pool after having spent the weekend replacing the pool filter and getting the water balanced properly... Sleeping for about 48hrs straight (I wish) and then going back to work in the new year to start it all over again...
So, so many things. Sadly all work related. Setting up a new firewall and web content control system Upgrading parts of the network backbone to 10Gb OS2 Fibre Reimaging the entire laptop fleet with Windows 10 and Office 2016 Unboxing and setting up 90 new iPads and 370 new hybrid laptops Replacing a bunch of outdated network switches Cabling up a new computer lab to support 40 machines Migrating data storage from some old SANs to a new Webscale architected system ...and more

Heaps of Raspberry Pi Geekness this Xmas: MPD client on multiple android phones > MPD server on PI + bluetooth dongle + access to music storage > Sony GTK-X1BT via bluetooth. Retropie. This will be 2 stages. Stage 1, console style with HDMI running to TV (audio receiver) and controllers. Stage 2, Arcade machine with proper arcade joystick and push buttons. I only intend to get Stage 1 working nowish. And if I can get all that working - then back to working on the home automation. Openhab client on mobile devices >(internet)> openhab server + MQTT server on raspberry pi >(radios)> arduino nodes in the roof. Might get some zwave gear as well.

I'm building a brand new backup environment into the cloud (Azure), its going to span across a number of Virtual Machines and scale firstly to 32TB, and then out to 64 and upwards beyond that as time goes by. hard part is making sure that everything i do on day one can scale and is modular so that no one ever has to pull it down because it wasn't designed correctly at the beginning. I love this IT, can't believe I get paid to do this stuff!
FIFO's for teh masses!1 Don't a cheap-skate. Real men would spring for 16550AF's, de-solder the 16450 junk, solder sockets on and feed it the 16byte buffered FIFO's of Champions!!1 So. don't be a girl.
Hacking an Electric Wheelchair. Hacking an electric wheelchair and adding a remote wireless control interface using some home made RC control gear (might even add in a bluetooth interface so they can use a mobile). Also using a Raspberry PI to add delays to the controls to remove jerkiness (bit like a smooth scroll app for a mouse). The owner cant control the chair anymore himself (dementia) but rather than let the chair go to wast Im going to add a remote interface so an assistant nurse/relative can take him out for a day. Also going to replace the fuel injection system on my motorbike (lag and pops ie Hyosung GV650) and swap it with a power commander V with auto tune (got it second hand for a steal). I will be adding a USB interface to the handlebars so I can edit/swap maps on the fly via a portable PC or Android Mobile (yes there is an app for that). Then when I get time troll ebay and OCAU for a 17" laptop to replace my aging Gen I i5 clunker and replace the water cooling on my AMD rig as the pump is cactus..
