http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holophonic Make sure you have a set of headphones on when you listen to this http://www.holophonic.ch/archivio/testaudio/Cereni%20-%20Holophonic.mp3
This has been around for a while in various forms now I'm just hoping that it catches on and we can stop seeing shitty "5.1" headphones popping up all over the place.
What's more scary is that people only realise this technique now, has been around for ages. As snufkin mentioned. Death to "5.1" headphones.
That first example seemed like the matchbox was behind the listener. Is there an example where the sounds seems to come from in front?
Guys, I'm sitting here at work, running around the office like a nutter trying to find someone with a pair of headphones.. I've never heard of this before, and I am intrigued! Have to wait until 3PM, the mad dash home. //hakes
Interesting indeed! And that's genuine interest too, I'm a lover of HRTF in games, and CMSS2 when I listen to music
I'm totally depressed by technology that was availble to us in the mid-late 1990's being repackaged as brand new technology in 2006. And it was done with hardware that was 3-4 times slower than we have now. Such short memorys the retail public has too! Oh well, I still have my Aureal MX300 Sound Card that did A3D, that is close to 10 years old now, that sounded as good back then as my Audigy2 ZS does. gg Creative gg The free market system gg Lawyers And this is what we call progress.
Oh... you guys need to hear some Dallas Simpson's recordings then: http://www.waterpump.f9.co.uk/ The fireworks recording is brilliant!!! Headphones are a must with binaural recordings... speakers so not work for this.
Basically, it works off the fact that you only have 2 ears, yet you can hear stuff infront, behind, up and down, left and right... So, if the sound is recorded and mixed right, you can get the same effect just using two speakers, IE, headphones.
yeah something like a train screaming straight at you would be cool esecially if it was also with video. now that would be cool. Smurfinator
Awesome idea... I had a mate come over last night.. I sat him down at the PC and made a bet that he would not be able to sit there, with his eyes closed, whilst I played him this MP3.. he laughed at me and made a $50 bet. I sat him down, put the headphones on and played the Matchbox one.. around the 27 second mark he flinched and opened his eyes, looking behind him... Creepy shit, I love it.. and now I'm off to buy a new french cuff shirt with the proceeds. //hakes
I dunno dude, those matches sure sound like they circle me from 0.20 to 0:45. So at 0:20 they are right, 0:23 behind, 0:26 left, 0:30 in front.
I have my MX300 stored... I can't get it going on ANY of todays chipsets.. You are still using yours or? //hakes
