    Hmmm......

Yes I was a huge Homeworld fan and this comes from the minds who delivered that classic. The company quote re "merging AAA and casual gaming" has me slightly suspicious, but who knows what that means in reality.

With all my buttons pushed as far as concept goes, I then have to ask why, after 3 years of dev time, all we get is concept art. Tantalising for sure but I would have expected something more concrete by now.

Anyhoo, for those that luv all things sci-fi and this sounds like yr cup of tea, you can sign up for closed beta HERE

Words cannot express how sexy the art style is.

I love the idea of salvaging tech off of others (I've got a couple of game ideas based around the same concept) so I'll be interested in seeing what they do.

I watched the trailed and I still don't know what this 'game' is about.

I thought I understood it until I saw the RTS looking battle then I was lost again. There I thought it was a FPS...

Looks great, and the art style made me think it was going to be some awesome anime series, which actually would be pretty epic as well.

Still not sure if it will be FPS or RTS, either would be great for this type of game though.

And then I saw "EA".........

While this looks super promising, I won't be paying to get in. I've still signed up though. We'll see how good their beta lottery is.

Done $30 a few times to get access to beta's. $99 - too rich for me. Game looks very interesting though and from the Homeworld boys so :thumbup::thumbup:

Simcity burnt me for life. No more pre-orders for me, mmm-kay? And I don't care what the hype, never ever paying for beta testing again! Us gamers are getting burnt out, buying unfinished heaps of crap.

*Goes back to playing Homeworld 2 Complex mod

Kinda depends on the studio. I bought Civ V sight unseen - never again from that studio. But bought $30 VIP beta access twice from Hirez (Global Agenda, and Tribes:Ascend) and have certainly gotten my monies worth both times.

When i saw the thread title i thought it was just someone asking about hardware to play games so i ignored it. Glad i looked at it now and watched the vid, went to website, watched other vid, etc.
From the vehicle that rolled off the ship, it looks like an MCV from Command and Conquer series.

Would free to play mean supported by tonnes of adverts or perhaps a micro transaction "pay to win" type of game ?

Really liked that trailer, very nice art style. I've signed up for the Beta, who knows if I'll get a look-in. Still I'm very intrigued based off it being from the Homeworld guys

I think the confusion comes from the two interpretations of F2P that we have today, it's either free to play as in freemium where you eventually find a wall where it becomes increasingly harder to continue without paying, or free to play as in you buy the game once and you get to play it forever. To me only the freemium interpretation makes sense whenever free-to-play is mentioned, since the second interpretation is the way it has always been since the beginning of time.

But nevertheless the pay once games are every now and again referred to as free to play.

If you have to pay whatsoever, then the game isn't free to play. Freemium is a bit different though because you can keep playing without paying, it just becomes very hard/boring.
What other games have been advertised as free to play then charge you a once off fee?

Every time I watch their video preview I get caught up in just how damn good the game looks, and how much like Homeworld it all seems.

If it was $50, they'd have my money now. Pre Simcity catastrophe, they'd have my $100.

As it is now, I'm going to sit back and see how many of the 10,000 places they sell. When it gets to 9,500, I'll buy in.
