I agree completely with this post here.
So does mine. Not sure about the "it's not good enough for 4k" people around the forums.
I play quite a mixed bag of games at 4k with a Titan xp (actually have two of them) and there are often games that still dip under 60fps
Christ how hard is it to quote on this new forum. Pain in the ass!
Anyway, the 1080Ti performs better than the Titan XP at 4K, i don't dip below 60FPS in the most demanding titles such as Ark, DCS, X-Plane with payware scenery, Star Ctitizen etc. All best settings. However i'll admit i don't run MSAA over 2x ever as meh it's 4k and also i run all performance optimizations on in NVIDIA control panel as i've never seen a speck of difference with things on quality.
Single quoting is easy, just hit reply. The old multi-quote system was better than the new "add to quote list" version, though.
For an ontopic thought, I'll just echo everyone calling for 1440p. So much nicer, for everything, than 1080.
Oh man sorry for off topic but thank you for that, i missed the reply button on each post.
Just be happy with what you have an stop worrying about changes in technology.
You have a solid setup that you will enjoy using for years to come.
Maybe hold off on the monitor upgrade... new ultrawides are coming with 200hz refresh rates and HDR.
4k is a push. Here are some numbers from my system. 7700k, 1080 ti hybrid, 4k, ultra in all. +175 core, +400 ram OC vs stock.
Wildands 43 fps ultra, benchmark
Destiny 2 never dips below 60fps
Crysis 3 sits around 60fps
10600 in timespy graphics for reference
I use a 43" 4k 60hz monitor. As u can see, no way u can get much over 60 without dropping the detail. Doubt a 2080 ti will do much better
Lost for words. Did you have a lobotomy?
Ok haha, fair call.. haha..I have two children to feed now. Those days of selfishness/aka computer parts porn are gone...
Again, what titles ? on Frostbite and Id-tech engines, yes. Wolfenstein New Collosus runs nicely same as Prey . But look at Ghost Recon: Wildlands, no way you can maintain 60hz4K with max settings. Shadow of War. 1080Ti can't even get 50fps on average let alone solid 60fps, assassins creed origins same deal, ~50fps on average (after the new patch).
If you play Overwatch, Starcraft 2, diablo 3, CS:GO, DOOM, Wolf, then yes 1080Ti is fine. If you want to play latest AAA titles and most demanding games, without compromising quality (which I'm assuming you don't want to do when you run enthusiast-grade PC) then NO, 1080Ti struggles...
quick google search
yeah add hellblade, an absolutely stunning looking game to that list
The thing is you dont have to worry about frame rates and if the picture is good then just enjoy. I had x 3 27"XB1 Predator Monitors set up as a tri screen but kept bumping and moving them so put my 34" Samsung back on . May just put back on one 27" Predator. The thing is I dont have to worry about frame rates for a while
Would agree with what most people are saying, try go for 1440p
I currently have a 1080ti and use an AGON 27" Monitor (https://www.scorptec.com.au/product...MIsqPmlsyh1wIVRx0rCh1K7gO5EAQYASABEgIOAfD_BwE)
Absolutely love the thing, will never go back to 1080p and the Aorus 1080ti smashes everything maxed out on it
I play AAA titles at 60FPS solid best settings all the time (I don't use AA it's taxing and not needed for 4k).. Just none of the garbage you mentioned.
I play Project Cars 2, Ark Survival (demanding as fuck), Star Citizen, BF4, GTA5, ED. Not so AAA but demanding as fuck, DCS world, X-plane 11, can't even remember the rest all work fine.
Maybe because i have also OC the 1080ti a lot and as i said i don't care for AA.
Would you mind sharing some Akr Survival Gamepaly with Ultra settings (no AA) @60fps please ? All I could get out of 1080Ti FTW3 was 40 frames at best on 7700K. Again Ark Survival is so poorly optimised, that it runs like shit on nearly any rig.
BF4, GTA5, DCS world are 3-5 years old games. The "garbage" games I've mentioned are the current representation of mainstream AAA games.
1080ti is damn close to the 4k@60Hz, just not there yet. What it is, is nearly ideal 1440p/144hz combo card.
Hopefully the 8700K will be in stock soon, so I can do some benchmarking @4k then, and share some numbers.
I'm using a 1080 on 4k. Depending on your needs & games you may find it "Not good enough" - but you need to be demanding the absolute maximum, then. If you don't mind lowering a couple of settings here and there, or the occasional dip below 60Hz, then it's fine.
Each to his own
DCS 2.1 is in beta lol.
I honestly CBF trying to film ark to show you, and it doesn't actually need to be no AA as ark AA on epic runs as good as off.
Anyway i am more concerned about VR than 4K atm, i have trouble running anything decent in RIFT with lots of supersampling, which is a must if you don't want it to look like shit.
I've had 1080p 120hz (using gtx780 at the time), 1440p 60hz (980ti) and now a 3440x1440p 100hz (1080ti). Never going back to 16:9 and below 1440p 100hz and definitely can't go without variable refresh rate. Haven't once considered any other monitor since getting an Acer predator. Only upgrade I'll consider going forward is something identical but with a a significantly higher refresh and possibly hdr (with decent price, the predator was way over priced). Just my two cents, so upgrade if you can afford it or just enjoy what you have it's never a waste if you're using it
