Of course now we all want to see what the magazine is.
Wasn't too subtle
I'd personally not bother, and learn from this experience. Look at all the time spent chasing this up and you'd be better off doing other more productive things.
Obviously it's 100% wrong what's happened here, but IMHO $60 isn't worth fighting for.
Most of the agreements and everything has been through facebook messaging.
Ive sent a msg last week asking for further contact details for me to send an invoice to. Seems I have been ignored. Ive just asked again now and he then suddenly went offline.
Im really not sure if I should waste any more of my efforts but at the same time it simply aint fair.
Find his email address via the magazine website or a hardcopy of the mag. Or copy and paste the messages into an email to the Editor. Shouldn't be hard to do so. Or post on their Facebook page "Hey Guys, been having a hard time reaching XXXXX regarding my payment for the image used in the artcile on XXXX in Edition XXXX. Can you help me out?"
The money inst significant. They agreed to make a payment for the use of the photo and didn't. Letting them get a way with it just sends the message that that behaviour is acceptable and they will continue to do it to countless others.
It is important to stand up to these shady business practices.
I agree with this. Just go over the guy you have been dealing with.
Wtf?! Board of directors for $60? Obviously this guy is giving you the run around.
Invoice them for time involved chasing the debt as well.
Poor poor form by a well published magazine.
I have emailed the magazine company with the photo used, a screen shot and photo of the magazine and page + the conversation held between myself and that middle man.
Will keep you guys posted.
Please do follow this up. If you let it go, they do the same thing to other photographers and contributors and everyone suffers.
Ok so I emailed a bunch of people from the magazine. They followed up, apologized and lead me to another company which they said they emailed for me and told me to email as well.
Just waiting around now. its been a few days.
GOOD NEWS EVERYBODY!
I have been paid!
took long enough but the persistence paid off.
I'm so pleased that you got it, at last.
So I guess the moral of the story is to find out what the correct procedure is and then follow it!
