So I googled it, found a guide, I double touch the body of the email, then click add Attachment.

I get a browse menu where I can select from iCloud Drive, On My iPhone and Recently Deleted.
I select On my phone and get one folder called Pages with two files in it. There's nothing else available to select. How do I navigate to other places like my photos and stuff?

I find it's just easier to go to the actual photo, and then press that square button with the arrow pointing up, and attach it that way

The tab before “ add attachment” for me
Is “insert photo or video”. I’d rather add the media as attachments, but it works mostly ok.

As supasaiyan suggests, starting in photos and adding to an email seems to work better, particularly if you have a pile of media to attach and need a fresh email (not a reply or fwd).
