Buy some small mushrooms, buy packet of "Szechuan salt and pepper" spice pack from an asian grocery. Depending on how thick you want your batter to be make a batter from the spice pack and bit of flour. Set fryer to very hot, dip mushrooms in batter fry for very short time.

It oughta because the Chicken Express mushrooms are a very generic asian flavour.

Don't know try google, I'm going by my knack of taste.
Batter: Flour, bit of starch, seasoning/salt, water or beer.
Mix in bowl, more water/beer less flour will result in thinner batter and vice versa.

Just tried using batter and frying the mushrooms with a bit of szcheuan flavoring and it doesnt really work out. Just tastes like something out of a chicken and chips shop.

Anyone have any idea what the recipe is?

I dont think its battered because the chicken express ones dont really have a skin.

I haven't seen these, living in the UK and all, but maybe they are egg dipped, then rolled in the flour and spice mixture, or even milk dipped.

Are they golden or brown when you get them?
