How to price Digital Artwork

hey guys i need some advice on pricing my artwork.

Ive been commissioned to design 2 fantasy characters for a Internet security business pitch.

I spent about 8-10 hours in total on one image and the client is very happy with the end result. It was originally done on paper then fully rendered in photoshop on an Intuos 5 Tablet.

The image is bigger then A4 and done at 300 dpi and is in full colour with no background. ( for now ).

Im not a professional but im no where near an amateur and have been drawing for the most part of my life on and off. I cant show you this particular image but here is a sample i showed the client which got me the role.

 

Work on an hourly rate and you can't go wrong.

Freelance art like this, if your starting off probably $40 - $60 per hour depending on the client. If you've been in the industry for a while and have higher profile clients probably $80+

 

sounds good to me that was what i was thinking myself.

 

I'm surprised you didn't agree on a price/rate before starting, maybe do that next time.

 

yeah i know i need a rate for next time. he knows now.

Price is settled, $40 per hour atm and $60 once its out of concept stage.

 

Can I say on a side note, really cool drawing

but they are for clients eyes only for now.
