How to tell what my USB port supplies powerwise?

    USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C Port (10 Gb/s) (Supports ESD Protection)

This is what the B550 Steel Legend Motherboard has apparently. How much power does it output?

I have to charge The Meta Quest 3 with the Meta Quest Link Cable in the wall charger because it won't charge faster than it uses the power when plugged into PC so I can't get the lag free gaming with cable without it running out of power.

Meta Quest Link Cable cost $130 and says on it's Amazon page: The actively powered USB-C cable charges your headset’s built-in battery as you play, so it’s ready to go as soon as you go cable-free.

I assume the reason the battery still goes down when plugged in to the USB is that the USB port isn't outputting enough but the Meta Quest Link Cable doesn't seem to say it needs a special USB-C port in PC or anything so idk.

Meta Quest 3 wall charger outputs 5V at 3A or 9V at 2A

Probably 15W (5V @ 3A). However, if it supports USB Power Delivery (PD) (most likely), up to 100W (20V at 5A)... assuming the appropriate PD profile is negotiated.

Hmm so the info on the Meta Quest Link Cable is kinda untrue since it implies the cable when plugged into a PC can charge the device up and it needs 18w apparently to not drain xD

Idk how that works or how to tell if it does support Power Delivery (PD)?

About all I know is I plugged headset into USB port at 7% power and went back to playing and then noticed it was at 3% lol so it wasn't doing the 18W minimum the headset needs to charge up.

For what it's worth, I just used a UGreen 5m USBC cable and my unit played and charged at the same time. I don't recall it actually using the USBC cable for data though and i'm sure it used wifi...Whether that was an option or not with the Quest app, i can't remember, but i also used Virtual Desktop which was wifi only and was generally a better experience anyway.

I'd probably recommend just trying a USBC cable first before jumping into the meta cable and save yourself money

    EDIT: THis one https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B09QSXLP6C

EDIT2: Oh my fucking god i completely misread the OP, sorry...Have you considered using over wifi and getting a higher watt wall plug to just use it to charge with? You're definitely using the USBC on the mobo and not via the case?

Better dig into spec's/manuals etc. for both.

It sounds like either the MB USB doesn't support USB PD or the headset doesn't... or both.

You may need to charge the headset on a power point instead of PC USB.

Motherboard manual says "* Ultra USB Power is supported on USB_34 ports" but USB_34 is USB 2.0 not USB 3.2 like the USB-C port. It also seems to mean that the 12V rail powers them instead of the 5V so voltage drops don't happen or something not extra output.

Manual doesn't explain what Ultra USB Power is so had to find a forum post with people explaining it.

Manual does mention USB Power Delivery but their USB power Delivery doesn't do higher power It just makes it so power comes out of USB ports when the PC is off and is called "USB Power Delivery in Soft Off State (S5)"

So it would appear maybe my USB-C port can't do more than 15W which isn't enough for Meta Quest 3 since it needs 18W?

I already have the Meta Quest Link Cable that cost me $130 :( it's a 5gbps cable which apparently is needed to avoid lag. It charges just not enough to not have the power go down when in use.

To use wifi you need wifi 6 or 6e and my modem is a billion bipac 8700axl 1600 which is wireless AC which I think is considered wifi 5 and so less than the needed wifi. So yeah only way to get lag free is to use Meta Quest Link Cable to connect to PC. If I was to charge it via wall charger all the time i'd need a modem with better wifi.

I edited my post above as I somehow misread the OP completely, sorry!

That being said, when I used mine it was strictly over 2.4Ghz and it was flawless. At the time I only had (and still only have in some parts of the house) wifi 5. I do have unifi AP's but I'd hope any somewhat decent router would be sufficient

There's only one USB-C port and it's on the back so of course :) front of case only has 2 x USB 2 and 2 x USB 3 ports that are all USB A

I think you might be out of luck tbh and be forced to either turn the ‘screen’ off to charge, get an external battery pack, or switch to wifi and use a higher powered wall plug.

If a battery strap is something you would consider, i can definitely vouch for the Bobovr S3 Pro was really good when i had mine.

Its not ideal but im unsure of any other solution to the above other than a different motherboard
