Checking on the status of the 2x4GB ECC Kingston RAM I ordered from mwave and noticed the price has gone up from $73.70 to $96.50 per stick. Mine are still at the old price, but obviously there has been a rush on ECC RAM and prices are going up.

    Gday oli,

mate when you change the 1st post to add links to the modded BIOS files.

Please make mention of the following

If people are planning the use WHS v1 on this little gem, they would best NOT change the ODD port from it's original state.

I will write a HOWTO install WHS v1 and the tricks and gotcha's in doing so when I get time.

But at present, there is a catch 22 with installing WHS v1 and AHCI / IDE modes of the Sata controllers.... and you have to do a bit of fiddling / swapping cables... changing into and out of IDE mode etc to complete the installation.

Which I am not sure will work if you mod the bios before hand.:Paranoid:

So please make a note.... before people flash the bios (tho knowing HP you should be able to reflash it again and revert or downgrade the bios version.) but just in case...

Failing that people are going to have to roll a new WHS v1 install disc with the required drivers for AHCI support.... so they don't get the blue screen lockup after the 1st boot.

    Thanks:thumbup:

Chiming in, got mine today. Didn't even know about the deal until it was to late. Thankfully my business partner was savvy enough to order two when he saw it under the assumption if I didn't want it someone else would.

Tossing up between debian or some unraid/flexraid setup.

Boot Centos5 off an internal USB key, 4 x 2TB WD greens in mdadm RAID10 with LVM on top.

Main use will be as home server and NAS to stream media to an Android TV box[1] and hypervisor for dev/test VMs. My 5yo son just took my Mac Mini but I managed to keep the USB TV tuner so will set this up to record FTA. Also, would like to put an Intel NIC in.

Anything special you've done to optimise performance running from a USB key? How big is it?

This post at We Got Served vouches for the drivers at http://www.cvscorp.com/whs.html being complete and correct.

I have downloaded them but won't get my server until tomorrow so don't know if they work or turn your server into a rampaging HP branded killing machine...

If not where's is a good place to purchase a unit?

Haven't got it yet... But will just have /boot on the USB stick and the system partns as LVs on the RAID10 so not that bothered about performance of the USB key since don't plan on rebooting often ;)

If you mean performance of the array, I expect to do a bit of tuning plus all the std stuff like noatime, and mucking around with samba stuff diff filesystems and io schedulers.
