Hi, I've got a long-serving N36L and I think my second boot USB has died. I'd like to upgrade the boot drive to a cheap SSD, but I'm using all the internal sata ports.

Does anyone know if it will it boot from a pci-e to sata card (like this) or a pci-e to msata (like this)?

Otherwise I might just a portable USB SSD (the internal USB 2.0 will power one fine, yeah?)

    Cheers

Yep sure is. The classifieds unlocks itself after you've been a member here for 90 days and have donated every user in this thread an HP microserver.

I've been handed a pair of N54L's recently, what was/is the latest BIOS version available for them? (from HP or otherwise)

G8 owner here. Just checking that the Xeon E3-1265L v2 is still the best CPU to get for the G8. I've seen a few on eBay going for between $155 - $150. Is that reasonable?

Cheers :) I just wanted confirmation before I hit Buy It Now

From what I understand, the stock cooler is rated for 45W TDP and the E3 1265L v2 is a 4C/8T 45W CPU. I'd have to upgrade the cooler to go higher TDP and the Xeon is a fair upgrade over the Celeron G1610T chip in there atm.

Purchased mine from this seller. Arrived in good condition the other day :)

What sort of idle temps is everyone getting with a 1265L?

Installed mine and on idle current its around 40-50c which seems very high....underload i haven't seen it pass 80c

I have 2 Gen8s sitting on top of each other in a cupboard (cupboard door open for airflow)

    inlets 27/23deg
    CPU in both 40deg

one is an E3-1265L v2, one is the original Celeron G1610T, both pretty idle at the moment

My Gen8 is also upgraded to 1265 v2 with stock thermal. It is kept in cabinet in garage.
Sensors say inlet temperature is currently 20"C and CPU is at 40"C. It usually hovers between 35-45"C depending on load etc.

If you've got space for it where you store your Gen8, you can just use a regular power supply while you wait for the other to arrive.
