Should I be buying a LSI card off eBay ?

Very few cards are getting shipped locally or from UK/US..
Most of them are being shipped from China or Hong Kong. I wonder why is that ?

it's because most of them are fakes - but they work like the real ones - just never paid licensing fees i guess.

That said, it's where i get most of mine.

    RIP.

After the usual sobbing/burial rituals, what are the plans ?
    HP Gen8, Gen10+, or something else ?

    Dayum.

My N40L has recently been giving me increased grief as well (although the modded bios with the extra HDD has always been a bit unstable, it became acutely worse, I assume its a power issue).

Replacing mine with an itx am4 build.

Well it appears that I have started a private old age home for MicroServers so if you have dead ones you can give them to me. Gee these N40L are gutless old things, I wonder how they compare CPU wise to a RPi4?

But great for using as a NAS. I'll take a punt on that Aliexpress PSU and see how it goes.

Yes, some of what I was experiencing at the time was the failing hard drive that came with it. I think that one now has ZFS on it.

Ahh, I missed this and have the Aliexpress one on the way. If it's a fail I'll hit you up.

Aliexpress PSU arrived today. It's slightly wider so is a tight fit. The screw holes don't really line up, not too bad as one fits so is enough. Has two Molex and two SATA power, so I need two Molex splitters, which I don't have but will hack the connectors off the old PSU and make some. Hopefully back up and running tonight.

Back up and running. The PSU wasn't actually wider, it was that the screws on the edges not sitting flush, so I tightened those and it fits nicer, also allowed me to screw into the rear three mounting holes. I was going to make my own splitters, but don't have a molex depinning tool. So I just snipped off one of the sata connectors and soldered a pair of the molex connectors from the old PSU to that.

I Have a copy of the modded bios files attached... best thing I done. Everything seemed to run faster and no issues with the mod. been running for 5+ years modded. My issue (N40L) is the cpu is nearly always running at 100% and the gpu isnt great but still does what I need other than that it does a great job still

this does the extra sata slot at full speed and hotswap etc
This one is for the N40L but was this compatible with the N36L and N54L aswell? Not sure this is all the readme shows.

"O41100113.ROM.original" is the original HP provided ROM that gets put on your USB flash drive when you run HPQUSB.exe from the SP64420.exe package
"O41100113.ROM" is the MODDED ROM that you need to replace on the flash drive after running HPQUSB.exe
