    Hey Guys,
I just got my old HP N54L out that I haven't used in years and going to reset it up again as a NAS but want to upgrade some of the components.
Can anyone tell me the best RAM to buy to upgrade it as I think it currently only has 2 or 4 gig in it and where to buy it from (in Australia preferably) or overseas if much cheaper.
Also what's the max size in terrabytes HDD you can put in there these days? Its currently running 4tb ones on xpenoloy on dsm 6 something.

I damn near forgot mine, I've got 2 I've gotta list sometime eventually with their 30tb of drives in them, been lazy. :(

I know you can actually put 16gb in there. But it's very particular modules, I can't recall which but if you search my post history I have mentioned it here their

My RAM, is the correct answer! LoL
Let me know how much you want and I'll check the parts rack for you.
I'd have to get one down and check again for you as I've forgotten, but I think 16TB work.

Back in the day it was Kingston & Samsung as the stuff to buy, but 'macktheknife's Amazon link should work fine.

Can you hear or feel them powering/spining up?

Edit: Oh this is the old microserver, I bet you haven't got the SAS cable to the motherboard in the socket properly or something because you would have to have pulled all that out to change the RAM over on a Gen7 microserver. It'll be one of the plugs to the motherboard not put back fully.

Yep, I just finished editing my post saying as much. You don't have to do all that on a Gen8 Microserver for a RAM change.

This also came across my feed today...

I've still got an N54L lying around, interesting project.
Think I'd be more likely to just shuffle some of the older 4tb SATA drives from the current Unraid box into it as an offsite storage/backup.

Same... would look better with all white imo.

Not sure how I feel about this project...he mentioned updating it..firmware...bits...then all he did was replaced the mobo with a nuc? Might as well build a mitx NAS then imo.

Mine still does ok with win 10 as a media PC.

Just came here after watching it earlier today. The Youtube algo is working pretty I would say

The project was a bit ambitious, but it went a bit downhill after burning the initial NUC.

seems like A LOT of work for what the end goal will be imo.. but each to their own - I know I'm a sucker for silly arcade projects :D

Looks like a nice upgrade, pity it’s so expensive.
