Hmm, maybe I'll get hunting for a set of both I think I'll be giving SB/SB-E a miss. I'm a bit let down by what I've read of X79's benches so far. And after seeing how fast, yet weak (chip dies if you fart while overclocking) SB is first hand with t8y's benches, I think it's safe to say I'll be holding out for Ivy Bridge. Although that's not without it's own worries. With AMD potentially pissing off from the Desktop CPU Market (unless they do a HP backflip), Ivy Bridge could be a bit.... meh....
Ivy bridge is a die shrink pun intended (die) more than likely be even more sensitive to voltage although it should be more efficient at lower volts anyway. Hey to you guys looking for ram Try and search ebay and ive found several shit hot kits took me ten minutes if you know what your looking for. Some very nice powerchip ic's. This List can be very helpfull
Cheers mate, been studying that list like crazy lol. Not a major fan of FleaBay, but I'll have a look
got to 3.6 on some new xms2 kit. ** on q6600 under water. so should be able to go further.. gonna try again today ** but my scores still suck haha http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=2139561 didnt get the 3.6 vaild lol totally forgot.. arfter breaky im gonna try push it further, but should i loosen timmings a bit?
the kit i want looks like its going to retail for about $700 aussie g skill 2400 cas 9 16gb kit same kit in cas 10 is about $370 dont think another 300$ is worth it for one cas but im researching still
the 2400 c9 kit is the highest bin on the market basically, your not paying for c9 over c10, your really paying for the possible frequency, how tight the subs can go, etc i just did some benchies with the c9 kit at 2550 MHz with R4E, seriously good kit
I woudnt bother i tested your gskills and took em to 2450 stock volts stock timings they performed identical to the Mach extremes which we had over 2500 the other day with plenty left in the tank
from what i have read so far they seem to be a serious kit for X79 im still waiting to read some more on the new dominator GT kit coming it seems pretty decent also. but i have my 4 sticks of PI's 2300 c8 that im going to run first and see how they play with X79 before i go spending more on ram. hopefully they play nice
Devine - at least I can afford to mess around with SB coz 2011 is too dear with no gain Sorry I know I asked before but which rams did you get again?
Added this to the front page it aint great but if any one wants to make us a logo banner thingy go nuts
Check back through my recent posts- I'm more held back by my motherboard not having higher ram multipliers and that my SB bclck will only go so high. I bet it would be significantly better on X58 if I had my old setup. Pro, any info on other timings and voltages for that? I won't be using the gskill in this competition, but definitely the next.
http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=2142335 Mucking about with a nice kingston kit i picked up just seeing how tight they'll go nice results so far at stock volts
Thanks. Beginning to think that being afraid of >1.65v isn't as much of an issue as it should be. Is higher Vdimm better for pushing higher frequency or tighter timings or for both really?
I like it, and good idea. Maybe we could run a comp to design a logo, no prizes unless someone has something to give away. The winner will get credit for their design.
