True, this Intel SSD is too expensive. But you need 4 of these ocz SSD to get 476 MB/sec. The single Intel does 270 MB/sec. And the access time, which I believe is the more relevant performance indicator for actual disk usage, is far better with just 0.1 milliseconds.

Here you have a direct comparison with the same benchmark and an identical i7 system: First the 300 GB VelociRaptor, and then the 80 GB Intel SSD.

Yeah access time is comparatively slower on version 1 ocz core ssds. But my 3520LF still has another 4x SATAII ports free for other drives hehe

    Chainy, grab another 3x X25-M's for 4x X25-M raid 0 benches :D

From benchmarks i've seen 2x X25-M (at twice the price) is enough in raid 0 to match 4x 32GB OCZ Core V1 SSD + Highpoint 3520LF

:D If you sponsor me, I am at your service.

The difference between 0.4 ms and 0.1 ms is probably only "numerically" relevant. The difference between the Raptor (which has one of the fastest HDD access times) and SSD is really stunning though.

    haha price of 3x X25-M = 8x i7 920 or 3.7x i7 940s

actually difference from 0.4ms and 0.1ms is quite substantial in some benchmarks - probably why MTRON SLCs still hold their own despite read/writes at 80-120MB/s as they have fast <= 0.1ms access times.

Chainy have you seen an degradation in your X-25M? Both of mine have degraded :Paranoid:

When they arrived they did ~35k marks in the HDD test of PCMark Vantage and now one does 23-24k and the other does 27-28k - neither will hit 35k and it is on exactly the same test bed. So I'm interested to hear whether you've experienced anything like this as well.

Nice to see some SSD results here as well, I plan on getting I7 920 + X58 Gigabyte UD5, and 6gb Patriot ram. I currently run a 36gb raptor for my OS drive on games PC and was also thinking of changing the OS drive to a SSD.

I am just waiting on a socket bracket for the D-Tek fuzion waterblock. Or i may just get a Ultra Black heatsink/fan to hold me off.

I was thinking of getting one of these OCZ Core Series V2, or would it be worth going the Intel SSD?

I will throw the 36gb raptor in other PC and just raid it with the other one in there, so it wont go to waste.

I haven't tested the disk when I got it, I can't tell therefore. But it would surprise me. The degrading of HDD performance comes from their mechanical components. But SSD do not have any mechanics. What could degrade there?

    Electronic degredation...

Anything with a voltage is sure to degrade eventually?

Thanks chainbolt , that clears that up for me , but thats with the uber-expensive Intel SSD , what about a more common one ? ie cheaper ...

Well my gear is here except for the i1366 bracket for my Swiftech GTZ water block..... The waiting is killing me :( I might update my watercooling work log with the i7 setup. Im sure glad I invested in WC setup now as these babys crank out the watts :D
